General Summary :

Provides leadership and support in the assessment and tracking of progress toward the Superintendent’s goals, vision, and policies; organizes, coordinates, and directs work on special projects as assigned by the Superintendent to accomplish stated goals. Builds coalitions and works collaboratively with diverse stakeholders at all levels within the School district and with students, families, communities, advocacy groups, and partners to effectively represent the Superintendent and Lexington County School District One.

Essential Functions :

Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One.

Effectively communicates and collaborates with a variety of stakeholders including : the board of trustees, district and state personnel and staff, students, parents, colleagues and members of the general public to foster student learning.

Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive learning and working environment.

Works closely with the Superintendent as a strategic partner and assists in providing administrative coordination of supervision of work and personnel of all departments and schools to reduce fragmentation, overlap, and duplication of programs and services.

Directly supervises the work of the Elementary Schools, Middle Schools and Leadership Development, and High Schools and Postsecondary Pathways Executive Directors.

Assists in supervising the principals, including responsibility for supporting their growth and development.

Develops agendas for Senior Leadership and Principal Roundtable meetings.

Partners with organizational leadership to develop policy documents and recommendations for the Superintendent, and collaborates with leadership to research, develop, and implement policy updates as needed to align with new legislation or legal mandates, monitors compliance with local board policies, state / federal regulations, and regional accreditation standards.

Serves as facilitator assisting the Superintendent with Districtwide initiatives and monitoring progress of those activities.

Works in concert with other Senior Leadership administrators to ensure effective development and implementation of the strategic plan and that the annual District Goals are met.

Serves as a key member of the Superintendent’s Senior Leadership Team.

Responsible for day-to-day internal operations of the district and acts in place of the Superintendent in the Superintendent’s absence.

Keeps the Superintendent properly informed regarding developments essential to the effective management of the school system.

Directs and administers a program for responding to complaints, concerns and suggestions regarding district and school operations. Functions as the first line of response to administrative issues directed to the Superintendent.

Assists other District administrators as needed to respond to administrative problems, needs, requests, issues, etc.

Attends all scheduled and called Board Meetings.

Participates in professional meetings, educational conferences, and training workshops.

Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner.

Effectively uses personal computing devices and software applications for the management of daily activities.

Performs other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Minimum Education / Work Experience :

Minimum of a master’s degree in educational administration required

Minimum of six years experience in educational administration

Valid South Carolina teaching and school principal / supervisor’s certification for either elementary or secondary level

Eligible for South Carolina Superintendent Certification by July 1, 2025

Preferred : Principal experience

Evidence in the ability to lead a strong, vision-focused, service-oriented team of professionals across all aspects of public education.

Evidence in the ability to identify district funding sources and fiscal needs in the budget development process while ensuring that fiscal resources address the mission of the district.

Experience in identifying diverse stakeholder issues and concerns and developing strategies for dealing with these effectively and proactively.

Experience working with the Superintendent as a strategic partner to assist in providing administrative coordination of supervision of work and personnel of all departments and schools to reduce fragmentation, overlap, and duplication of programs and services.

Experience in interpreting and implementing policies, regulations and directives of the district and the South Carolina Department of Education; monitors compliance with local board policies, state / federal regulations, and regional accreditation standards.

Experience in assembling data, studies and surveys essential to the development of a more efficient and effective school district.

Experience working with administrators to ensure effective development and implementation of the strategic plan and that the annual District Goals are met.

Demonstrated ability in instructional management, budgeting, curriculum planning, staff development, legal matters, supervision of instruction, and personnel management.

Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Knowledge / Skills :

Knowledge of the policies, procedures, practices and activities of the school district which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of and ability to interpret, apply and adhere to all applicable federal, state, district, and local policies, regulations and procedures. Extensive knowledge in the planning, implementation and supervision of school district educational programs and services. Knowledge of and ability to implement the principles of management, supervision and administration relating to the budgetary, planning, staffing and financial aspects of the job. Knowledge of the required records, reports, documents, and related information which must be prepared and maintained. Ability to prepare and monitor instructional program operational budgets. Superior communication, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, administrative and leadership skills. Knowledge of and ability to implement curriculum development techniques and design. Ability to analyze formative and summative data to identify strengths and weaknesses. Ability to provide instruction and guidance to coordinators, administrators, teachers and instructional support staff, students, parents and office professionals. Knowledge of counseling methods necessary for handling student academic and adjustment problems. Knowledge of student services available and referral procedures. Ability to demonstrate high level application of technology devices in the performance of daily activities. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with all stakeholders involved in the activities of the job.

Working Conditions

Work is conducted primarily indoors with no significant exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Requires ability to perform duties that require constant attention, accuracy and / or tight deadlines. Moderate exertion in lifting and moving items weighing up to twenty-five pounds. Local travel and some overnight travel required.

Responsibility

Responsible for adherence to all policies, rules and regulations applicable to the operation of the district. Responsible for supervision of coordinators, directors, office professionals and all other staff as assigned.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on Evaluation of Administrative Staff.
