What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fisheries Technician position at LGL ESI?

LGL is accepting applications for a Fisheries Technician as part of rotary screw trap crew to be hired on a temporary basis from late February through November of 2026. The position will be based out of Wenatchee, WA. The ideal candidate will be willing to do biological field work (which includes work outdoors, sometimes in inclement conditions, sometimes for long hours, and sometimes on weekends). Experience with juvenile salmonid handling and identification is desired. Experience working on a boat would also be considered an asset. Candidate’s ability to be proficient with field data collection using computers (databases, Excel, Word,) would be considered an asset. The position will require a degree of flexibility and independence but will also require the ability to work within a field crew to support various project needs.

Responsibilities:

Work as a member of a rotary screw trap fishing crew on the Wenatchee and Chiwawa rivers. Tasks include operating the trap; netting, holding, and transporting fish; counting and identifying fish; collecting biometrics; PIT tagging and using other fish marking methods; data collection using a database; and driving a boat. Training will be provided.

Scheduled daily shifts will be a minimum of five hours, regardless of the amount of tasks needed on that day, and up to a maximum of 8 hours; Weekly commitments will be no more than 40 hours.

Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree (or higher) in fisheries, wildlife, biology, natural resources, environmental science, or related is preferred. Preferred 1-3 years of work experience or internships. Also required: ability to work at night, ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs (23 kg), and have a valid driver’s license.
