We’re committed to building a diverse workforce that values contributions of all team members and work to recognize cultural beliefs, values, traditions, language preferences, and health practices of the communities that we serve and how they apply to provision of positive health outcomes.   Position Summary Under the supervision of and accountable to the Help Restore Hope Center (HRHC) Program Supervisor, The Safe Dwelling Advocate performs functions relevant to advocating for services or providing direct services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking, along with their families. The Safe Dwelling Advocate handles duties that maintain the safe dwelling. The Safe Dwelling Advocate provides crisis intervention, safety planning, skill development, and service linkage to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking with the goal to promote self-sufficiency. Provides services in a manner, which is culturally competent.  Empowers clients by using clients’ cultural strengths and informal support networks in service delivery.               Essential Job Functions Shares on-call responsibilities; takes corrective action to provide crisis coverage, ensure HRHC hot-line coverage requirements, incident notification, and debriefing. Responds to and effectively handles emergencies, which may require flexibility of both time and areas of assignment.   Implements activities in accordance with OVS and OCFS regulations for a safe dwelling.   Assures the high standards and continuity of services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Participates in service planning, implementation of program goals and in carrying out the activities of the program.   Advocates on behalf of victims with the court system, law enforcement organizations, medical community, and the community at large.   Maintains and updates required records and documents for services provided. Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for providing community education, prevention, and awareness of issues of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.   Participates in service planning, implementation of program goals and in carrying out the activities of the program.   Maintains effective professional relationships with other service providers and community organizations in the interest of clients’ and program goals.   Identifies and reports on Untoward Incidents as required.     Carries out Agency policies and procedures.   Completes all necessary written reports, statistics, case files, and summaries in a timely manner and in accordance with program and agency standards.   Attends and participates in individual supervisory conferences, staff meetings, training sessions and professional development opportunities as required. Maintains required program certifications.   Provides door-to-door transportation as required. Ensures safety and welfare of passengers during loading, unloading and transit. Makes use of personal vehicle for program transportation as required.   Handles emergencies, which may require flexibility of time and area of assignment.   Orders groceries online, picks up and delivers to the safe Dwelling guests.   Performs weekly inspection of Safe dwelling.   Conducts quarterly fire drills at the safe dwelling.   Checks safe dwelling emergency kits monthly.   Maintains storage inventory lists.   Maintains safe dwelling intake folders on guests and makes available for other Advocates.   Checks Post Office box.   Performs other duties, responsibilities, and related tasks as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year experience or Associates Degree with two (2) years’ experience or HS Diploma and three (3) years’ experience with a domestic violence program, community based human services or related field required.  A combination of education and experience may be substituted for education.  Must have valid New York State driver’s license and access to reliable transportation. Criminal history clearance.   Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Is sensitive to cultural differences and able to incorporate that understanding into service provision.  Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Effective oral, written, and public speaking communication skills, able to communicate in a courteous and professional manner.  Ability to work independently and with flexibility in days and hours of work. Demonstrate initiative, sound judgment and an understanding of domestic violence and sexual assault issues.  Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb stairs, and lift objects of up to 10 pounds as required.   Advocates are required to complete an initial 30-hour Rape Crisis Certification training.
