The Role
Liberty Science Center seeks a Coordinator of People & Culture to be part of a team that focuses on creating an exceptional employee experience that celebrates the potential of all of our staff and offers them the opportunity to work with meaning in a caring work community.

Focusing on people-driven communications, systems, and a variety of programs, the Coordinator will support Liberty Science Center’s human resources functions, including but not limited to hiring and recruiting, HR technology, benefits administration, employee communication, learning and development, and employee engagement. 

The Coordinator of People & Culture will also take the lead on HR Information Systems (HRIS) responsibilities, including lifecycle operations, data management support, payroll support, and driving new and existing HR technology systems and initiatives. The Coordinator will also make sure we continue to be compliant and precise in the handling of our employee data.

In addition, the Coordinator will be a key culture builder as a central figure in our ongoing goal to build a diverse and skilled team of passionate people committed to inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers. Using exceptional customer service and problem-solving skills, the Coordinator of People & Culture will play a central role in helping to build a better workplace.

This position will report to the Chief People Officer and collaborate daily with other members of the team. The Coordinator will also have the opportunity to work directly with senior leaders and peers across the organization.

What You’ll Do at LSC
Your essential functions will include some combination of the following work streams:

  1. Support the delivery of a world-class new hire, onboarding, and offboarding experience
  2. Provide administrative support throughout the employee lifecycle, such as conducting background checks, processing I-9 verifications, scheduling interviews, etc.
  3. Own our HR technology, including creating a vision and strategy that enables us to harness our various digital tools to delivery best in class service and minimize the time we spend on routine tasks
  4. Enter, mine, and analyze HRIS data; use data to produce people reports related to headcount, attrition, demographics, and compensation; maintain integrity of databases and other digital tools; 
  5. Serve as a point of contact and knowledge base for our workplace and provide high-quality customer service to our employees
  6. Plan and execute events that drive employee engagement, morale and organizational culture, like recognition initiatives, All Staff meetings, holiday parties, lunch-n-learns, and other culture-related activities
  7. Ensure the People Team office operations run smoothly from day-to-day, including making sure that equipment is working, supplies are in stock, mail is distributed, deliveries are received, plants are watered, voicemail and general inbox email are responded to, and that the office is clean, organized, and welcoming.
  8. Proactively manage the CPO’s team calendar, expenses, payables, and meeting logistics
  9. Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of employee files and records
  10. Keep staff directory and org charts up-to-date
  11. Oversee the employment verification process
  12. Process team invoices according to Finance protocols
  13. Create and maintain HR process documentation
  14. Identify and drive potential process enhancements
  15. Read team needs and anticipate solutions to resolve proactively in a high-energy manner 
  16. Conducts research as necessary for various projects
  17. Respond to emergency situations in a calm, efficient manner
  18. Attend and support company events
  19. Other responsibilities, as assigned

Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will bring the following combination of education and experience to bear on this role: 

  1. 2-4 years of experience (internships included) in an HR-related or data and systems-focused role with success in customer service, project management, office management, and/or event planning. 
  2. Experience in desktop publishing and website design a plus
  3. Bachelor’s degree (can also be in-progress)
  4. Experience with applicant tracking systems (ATS), and other business applications, e.g., Slack, Trello, Monday.com, Zoom, Yammer, and/or RingCentral
  5. Excellent computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Google and intermediate Excel skill (vlookups, if statements, pivot tables, etc.) 

Classification and Schedule
This is a full-time, exempt position that is bonus and benefits eligible. The work schedule generally is Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM but some degree of flexibility will be necessary depending on the needs of the business. Additional work hours may be necessary, to meet the requirements of this job position, which could encompass early morning, evening, or weekend work.

Physical/ Mental/ Sensory Demands
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that a Coordinator of People & Culture would encounter while performing the essential functions of the job.

While performing the duties of this job, this employee will be in a standard office environment with moderate noise level and will be subject to sitting/standing at a laptop for long periods of a time while visually assessing information. This role is frequently required to receive oral and written instructions in English and to clearly communicate in English in person, over the telephone, and via texting and email. The employee is required to move about their work area, between galleries and storage areas, and ascend and descend stairs to assist with emergency evacuations, if needed. The ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds unassisted may be required when implementing special events.

Work Location
Until further notice, this role will be eligible to work one day per week remotely.  The schedule will be determined in conversation with the CPO.  

Liberty Science Center’s physical workplace is located in a beautiful state park in Jersey City, New Jersey, with easy access to free employee parking, the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, and the NJ Path train. LSC is a pleasant 15 minute commute from lower Manhattan. 

Travel
This role will require minimal travel.

Compensation
Compensation for this position is commensurate with abilities, education, certifications, and experience but is expected to be in the salary range of $45,000-$55,000. In addition to compensation for salary, you will receive compensation in the form of generous benefits, including, but not limited to:
