After School Program: Teacher (Part-Time)
The schedule is as follows:
- Part-time: 20-25 hours
- Monday-Friday 2:00-6:30 PM
- Some early days for staff meetings and professional development
- Some weekends based on programming
Background on Organization:
Life Pieces To Masterpieces (LPTM) is a non-profit organization located in the 7th ward of Washington, D.C. LPTM works to provide opportunities for Black and Brown boys and young men to change challenges into possibilities. Life Pieces To Masterpieces uses artistic expression and our Human Development System to develop character, unlock potential, and prepare Black and Brown boys and young men to transform their lives and communities. Since 1996, we have served more than 1,000 boys and young men, ages 3 to adulthood, and have created more than 1,000 masterpieces.
Job Description:
Life Pieces To Masterpieces is currently seeking an energetic, creative, and organized educator who demonstrates strong leadership qualities - preferably with experience working with youth in school, camp or education based settings. This is a part-time position in our Afterschool program, which includes lesson planning, behavior and classroom management, and professional development engagement.
RESPONSIBILITIES for teachers include, but are not limited to:
- Facilitate and model the Life Pieces To Masterpieces curriculum core elements (a combination of our Human Development System and artistic process)
- Create a learning environment that fosters love, security and expression for all
- Write and implement lesson plans while being creative, engaging, and educationally appropriate including hands-on activities
- Report on the progress of youth both verbally and in written format
- Communicate progress to parents and/or guardians
- Provide homework help and academic support
- Maintain attendance records
- Provide oversight and feedback to mentors and classroom volunteers
- Partake in data collection via surveys and other tools
- Lead our youth in implementing presentations for stakeholders, including, but not limited to, our families, community members, partners, and donors
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED required
- Bachelor's degree or some college preferred. However, consideration will be given to those with relevant youth development and education experience.
- Enthusiasm for working with Black and Brown boys and young men on their academic, artistic, and personal development
- Strong classroom management skills
- Experience and confidence facilitating dynamic programming
- Experience leading and managing others, including middle and high school aged youth
- Self starter with the ability to work independently and with a team
- Effective communicator with various types of people and professionals
Hours: 20-25 hours per week
Compensation: $18-22 per hour based on experience
Reports to: Director of Programs and Education
