The Department of Immigrant Services at LifeWorks Community Action has supported immigrants and their families in Saratoga, Washington, and Warren Counties for over 20 years. Our mission is to promote healthy, thriving families through strong connections to the community.

We are seeking an Immigration Attorney to join our team. The Immigration Attorney will supervise a team of DOJ-accredited representatives, provide legal counsel, manage a diverse caseload, and collaborate with community partners to ensure access to essential services. This role offers a unique chance to combine legal practice with leadership, advocacy, and a direct impact on the community. Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and mentor DOJ-accredited representatives and legal navigators, ensuring they receive the support and development they need to succeed.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Immigrant Services to expand legal services capacity, including recruitment, interviewing, and training new legal staff.
  • Assist with grant applications, administration, and reporting in partnership with the Director of Immigrant Services.
  • Represent clients before USCIS, the Executive Office for Immigration Review, the Board of Immigration Appeals, and Family Court on a variety of immigration matters.
  • Provide legal counsel and representation in removal proceedings, asylum applications, family reunification, deportation defense, and naturalization processes.
  • Attend immigration interviews, court hearings, and other appointments in collaboration with DOJ-accredited representatives.
  • Manage a diverse caseload, ensuring timely case handling, accurate record-keeping, and compliance with deadlines.
  • Support clients applying for Temporary Protected Status, asylum, adjustment of status, parole, and work authorization.
  • Stay current with relevant laws and policies by attending trainings, conferences, and reviewing new laws, regulations, and court rules.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school, and admission to the New York Bar.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in immigration law or a related field, including direct client services and staff supervision.
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of U.S. immigration law, including family-based immigration, deportation defense, humanitarian relief, and naturalization.
  • Languages: Fluency in both Spanish and English (written and spoken) is required. Fluency in additional languages is a plus.
  • Leadership and Mentoring: Proven leadership skills, with a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive team environment.
  • Commitment to Social Justice: A deep commitment to social justice, immigrant rights, and advocacy for vulnerable populations.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel within the service area and work occasional evenings or weekends.
  • Driving: A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
  • Background Check: A clear criminal record check is required.
