Job Description

ABOUT LIGHTHOUSE:

As a Clinical Training Specialist you will provide staff training for continuing education for licenses or certifications, will monitor required staff training, and assist in developing a skill competency program for clinical staff.

 

To meet the increasing needs of our communities it is imperative that all team members understand and successfully reach and maintain the expected performance standard levels.  In order to achieve total and sustainable success, each person must do their part.  Lighthouse will do its part in providing any and all necessary tools and training required to help team members be successful.

 

DEFINITION:

 

Under immediate to general supervision by the Manager of Training, prepares and conducts trainings for Lighthouse clinical and non-clinical staff.  Leads the compliance department with continuing education process as well as other tasks in the compliance department.  Maintains the requirements of the Licensing boards and Lighthouse policies.  Attends continuing education workshops, especially for Evidence Based Practice (EBP) modalities assigned to enhance expertise and monitor effectiveness and fidelity of the framework.  Prepares and provides trainings as needed.  This position works closely with the Chief Clinical Compliance Officer (CCCO) regarding Lighthouse’s Zero Suicide Initiative.  Works with CCCO and Chief Clinical Officer regarding CCBHC training and education to outpatient staff.

Qualifications and Benefits


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Must have a master’s degree in a mental health related field from an accredited university and have an active license as an LPC, LCSW, or LMFT.
  • Must have at least five (5) years of clinical experience with training Evidence Based Practice (EBP).
  • Must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Experience with presenting to groups is required.
  • Must develop working relationships with clinical staff and supervisors.
  • Must possess the ability to train staff and assess for comprehension of information.
  • Must have the ability to develop relationships with community partners.
  • Must be able to multi-task.
  • Must have strong computer and technical skills.
  • An expectation of core competencies in relation to individuals with co-occurring disorders, trauma informed care and collaborative care.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

 

  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, and of the application of psychological theories with respect to group and individual behavior, of mental illness, its symptoms, treatment, and social implications in relation to consumers and family; and of the methods and techniques used in training and supervision.
  • Skill in diagnosing and developing treatment plans; of clinical data; in carrying out courses of treatment; in counseling and guiding individuals; and in communicating clearly, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of social work and/or psychology; and of current social and economic problems.
  • Thorough skill in exercising good judgment in analyzing situations and making decisions; in  organizing and presenting facts and opinions clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other agency personnel and governmental representatives; and in developing staff’s clinical skills.
  • Ability to organize and conduct several projects simultaneously and meet required deadlines.
  • Skill in presenting material and training to large groups.
  • Knowledge of case management procedures.
  • Knowledge of inpatient, crisis stabilization, and outpatient services for adults and children.
  • Knowledge of types of Evidence Based Practices.

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

This position is responsible and held accountable for the following duties:

 

  • Develops curriculum and lesson plans; prepares training and necessary materials, conducts training classes, and assesses training and trainees’ effectiveness.
  • Works with the Training Coordinator to coordinate training dates, venues, and attendees.
  • Maintains clear and concise records of all training as well as Continuing Education Units (CEU) information for Oklahoma Boards.
  • Assumes shared responsibility for developing and integrating assigned departments public relations, consultation, and education programs with the overall programs of Lighthouse.
  • Assist CCCO with developing and implementing skills competency program and protocol for clinical staff, provide oversight and support to ensure skills are gained by new staff providing clinical services.
  • Monitors and reviews clinical documentation as needed or required.
  • Provides clinical training for staff Continued Education Units (CEU) in Ethics, Supervision, monthly Lunch and Learn series, Evidence Based Practices, and Trauma Informed Care.
  • Participates in developing and updating documentation training materials.
  • Provides clinical training on documentation including CAR’s, assessments, diagnosis, treatment planning, progress notes, collaborative documentation, group work, and suicide risk assessment.  Works with Manager of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) to ensure that training meet the documentation standards set by Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS) and the Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA).
  • Supports new counselors in clinical orientation training during onboarding and on the job support/mentorship.
  • Trains staff in CCBHC philosophy and team-based care on topics involving CCBHC.
  • Maintains or obtains certification as an instructor for Therapeutic Options and provides training to staff.
    • Leads agency Zero Suicide initiative to include the following duties: Leads agency Zero Suicide work group;
    • Keeps internal pathway updated and works with supervisors and staff for fidelity and buy-in;
    • Review Suicide Pathway documentation to include: AMSR assessments, safety plans, and fidelity to our internal suicide pathway;
    • Provides suicide related training to staff;
    • Completes chart reviews on consumers with suicide attempts or deaths.  Work with CQI team and site supervisors regarding improvement in services to consumers with suicidal ideation;
    • Stays up to date on research and best practices in suicide care.
  • Employee must be willing to and able to perform all job related travel normally associated with this position.
  • Must meet “satisfactory” expectations at any scheduled job performance evaluation, coaching and/or Performance Improvement Plans.
  • Must complete Lighthouse required training and resulting follow up and consultations as required at hire, annually and as directed by Supervisor.

 

Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or other management as requested.

 

In addition, must possess skill in working cooperatively and effectively with clients, staff, management and other professional and community groups; in exercising mature judgement in dealing with people; in presenting ideas clearly and accurately; in reading and comprehending the English language; and in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
