JOB SUMMARY: As our Direct Support Professional, you are responsible for:

- Providing support services to clients, including grocery shopping, transportation to appointments, assistance with medical needs and housekeeping.
- Teaching, assisting, and cooking nutritional meals for our clients.
- Being knowledgeable of the dietary needs of each client and ensuring that they comply with special diets and dietary needs.
- Preparing delicious meals according to our dietician approved menu. Cooking dishes that will delight our clients with great taste and timely delivery.
- Providing nutritional meals, while helping to preserve and enhance our reputation so we can expand our clientele.
- Following instructions in cooking while delivering well-prepared meals.
- Being deft in moving around the kitchen and apt in multi-tasking.
- Being experienced in using various ingredients and cooking techniques is important.
- Complying with all infection control techniques and established policies & procedures.
- Keeping the housekeeping closet and cart neat, clean, and filled with supplies at the end of each shift and keep cleaning solution bottles properly filled, labeled and stored away.
- Cleaning and maintaining any equipment used and reporting any needed repairs.
- Ensuring daily cleanliness of lobby, library, activity room, client units, employee lounge, dining room, offices and other areas.
- Sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping common areas and restroom/bathroom floors.
- Dusting and disinfecting all furniture, handrails, and common area objects, such as pictures, shelves, light fixtures, mirrors and other wall décor.
- Cleaning and disinfecting doors, doorways, stairways, door handles, chair rails, base boards and walls.
- Cleaning, disinfecting and restocking restrooms.
- Cleaning all glass surfaces.
- Emptying wastebaskets, trash containers and inserting new liners.
- Performing a variety of tasks, such as dust mopping and damp mopping floors in all areas including entry ways, corridors, etc. You are responsible for the safe and proper mixing and use of cleaning solutions and to adhere to all safety precautions.
- Removing and disposing of trash, inserting new liners, relieving laundry staff as needed, and performing all other related duties as assigned.
- Daily cleaning and sanitizing of client room furniture, as well as sitting room and dining room furniture.
- Observing the health of each client and reporting any health issues of concern immediately.
- Assisting with activities of daily living, ambulation, bathing, grooming, toileting, nail care, Range of Motion exercises, transfers/ use of mechanical lifting devices, oral feedings, vital sign checks: temp, pulse, respirations, and medication administering.
- Taking clients to a variety of activities, including shopping, sports, theater, art, music, and dining functions.
- Promoting a healthy lifestyle including diet and exercise.
- Providing support and assistance to meet the client’s spiritual needs.
- Providing a natural atmosphere conducive to the needs of all served.
- Ensuring that the individuals of each home have opportunities to participate in community activities.
- Taking all client special instructions and requests to your supervisor to ensure exceptional service and clear communication between the team and the clients.
- Providing the individuals with learning experiences based on individual abilities.
- Helping maintain contact with families and encouraging their involvement in programming.
- Assisting with IP planning by keeping accurate medical and progress records, making assessments of individual training needs and providing training and direction to the clients of the home.
- Knowing the medical needs of the clients and keeping abreast of various medications used by each individual, assisting individuals in taking medication, instructing the individuals in proper use and administration of each medication. Ensuring that medical appointments are scheduled and the medical needs of each client in the home are met.
- Representing Lighthouz in a positive manner; follows oral instructions, is pleasant, tactful, courteous and cooperative with supervisor, co-workers and clients.
- Assisting with orientation/training of new team members.
- Practicing positive client relations by responding promptly and positively to client and staff’s requests.
- Taking all client special instructions and requests to your supervisor to ensure exceptional service and clear communication between the Housekeeping team, caregivers, and clients.
- Responding to emergencies and reporting any safety hazards observed in the building to your supervisor or manager on duty immediately.
- Interacting appropriately with residents, client, other personnel, supervisor and the public.
- Responding to client preferences, complying with industry and federal and state guidelines, and meets the needs of residents.
- Responding to the messaging system in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Following infection control and universal precautions policies and procedures to ensure that a sanitary environment is maintained at all times.
- Following proper reporting, isolation, and handwashing procedures/techniques.
JOB TYPE: Part-time to Full-time, *After 90 days of employment
SALARY: $10 - $14 per hour
REQUIREMENTS:
- Level One Local Background Check and Level 2 AHCA Background Screening Clearinghouse (Required)
- Must be 18 or older.
- Excellent physical condition and stamina
- Must be able to lift/carry a maximum of 30 pounds, push/pull a maximum of 50 pounds, stand, sit, bend, and walk for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to work around food and cleaning products.
- Ability to cooperate with co-workers, clients, and facility staff.
- Willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks on a continuous basis.
- After the training period is completed, must be able to accomplish all responsibilities without supervision and do so without injury to oneself or other individuals.
- Must be able to fully understand and complete all in-services.
- Must be able to be at work a schedule on time. Reliability is a must
- Provide basic care needs: dressing, grooming, etc. to prevent spread of disease and infection.
- Observe and report changes in clients’ physical and emotional condition to the Charge Nurse.
- Assist in admitting, discharging, and transferring clients.
- Read, write, speak, and follow oral and written instructions in English in an understandable manner.
- Bilingual in English, Spanish, French, Creole a plus!
- Have a genuine interest in working with special needs clients in a home care environment.
- Willing to work beyond the normal working hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
- Function independently with flexibility and personal integrity while working effectively with clients, teammates, and visitors.
EXPERIENCE: Relevant: 1-year (Preferred)
EDUCATION:
- Have a HS diploma or equivalent.
- College, vocational, or technical training equal to 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours or 720 classroom hours may substitute for the required experience.
- Maintain a current and active CPR card.
