We are currently seeking an experienced Lead Veterinary Technician to join our team and help oversee the daily operations of our clinic. As the Lead Veterinary Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our clinic. You will be responsible for supervising and mentoring our team of veterinary technicians, managing inventory, and ensuring that all procedures are performed with the highest level of care. You will also be a key player in maintaining our friendly and sociable clinic environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians with medical procedures, including animal catheterization, dog handling, and animal restraint.
- Prepare animals for exams, surgeries, and other procedures while maintaining aseptic technique.
- Perform laboratory tests and collect biological samples, including X-ray procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of patient treatments, medications, and laboratory results.
- Ensure a strong understanding of animal physiology and dental terminology.
- Collaborate with veterinarians and other support staff to ensure the highest level of patient care.
- Provide exceptional customer service, including communicating effectively with pet owners and providing education on animal care and health.
- Supervise, mentor, and train veterinary technicians to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Manage and maintain clinic inventory, including ordering medications and supplies.
- Oversee the administration of medications, anesthesia, and other treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.
- Ensure proper handling and care of animals during examinations, procedures, and treatments.
- Utilize veterinary software platforms such as Covetrus Pulse for patient records and inventory management.
- Assist veterinarians with surgical and diagnostic procedures as needed.
- Promote a positive, friendly, and supportive environment for both staff and clients.
- Ensure compliance with all clinic policies, procedures, and protocols.
Requirements
- Current certification as a veterinary technician or willing to obtain certification within a specified timeframe.
- Years of experience in the veterinary field as well as in a leadership / supervisory role.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in veterinary medicine.
- Strong understanding of animal physiology and anatomy.
- Ability to lift and move animals.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in dental terminology and laboratory procedures.
- Familiarity with X-ray technology.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
