HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:


Required Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree

Desired Education and Experience:

  1. Previous classroom teaching experience or other relevant experience work with youth
  2. Experience working in an urban school district

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or willingness to obtain these skills
  2. Ability to travel as needed

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

 

Coordinate, promote, and implement programs and activities for high school students to facilitate their exploration of postsecondary career, education, and training options. Mentor and guide students as they set and revise goals and choose the appropriate postsecondary pathway for their needs, interests, and skills. Provide training and assistance to school staff on the SchooLinks college and career planning platform. This position requires continuous use of independent judgment. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the building assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Staff the Future Ready Success Centers at high schools, engaging individual and small groups of students in postsecondary career, education, and training exploration programs, activities, and advising.
  2. Utilize the SchooLinks college and career readiness platform and other resources to deliver postsecondary planning and exploration content to high school Administer career interest assessments to all high school students within SchooLinks, and help students interpret and apply their results to educational and vocational pathways.
  3. Promote guardian engagement with SchooLinks and assist them in utilizing the platform.
  4. Provide training and assistance to school staff on SchooLinks, as needed.
  5. Collaborate with school counselors, teachers, Community School Coordinators, Bilingual Family Liaisons, Postsecondary Planning Specialist, and postsecondary community partners to implement the DMPS Postsecondary Success Standards to high school
  6. Collaborate with the above individuals to coordinate and assist with special programs and events in the schools and community including, but not limited to: FAFSA completion events, college fairs, Future Ready Kick-Off Days, postsecondary planning workshops, middle school transition/8th grade nights, overnight field trips, career expos, and visits to colleges, skilled trades/apprenticeship events, and businesses.
  7. Collect and enter student data into Infinite Campus to monitor students’ progress toward reaching their postsecondary goals and facilitate communication among school counselors, administrators, and other colleagues.
  8. Enter services and interactions with students into GEAR UP Iowa Salesforce as directed by grant requirements.
  9. Assist students and families with the FAFSA Application and postsecondary education or training applications.
  10. Meet regularly with the Future Ready Team to discuss and plan programs and activities, review goals, and participate in professional development.
  11. Lead monthly collaboration meetings in their school that include the following individuals: at least one school counselor, one administrator, GEAR UP Iowa Facilitator, and Community School Coordinator (optional).
  12. During district professional development days, participate in PD with the school counseling department.
  13. Demonstrate accountability for personal, professional, and programmatic growth, including completing the Iowa College and Career Readiness Academy courses offered through AEA.

 

 

ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):

 

  1. Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
  2. Maintain confidentiality.
  3. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
  4. Assist with other duties as may be assigned.

DAYS: 195 Day Calendar    HOURS: 8 Hour Day

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Frequent: standing, walking, sitting, climbing/stairs. Occasional: bending/stooping, reaching/pushing/pulling, driving, lifting (25lbs), carrying (20 ft). Manual Dexterity Tasks: constant computer, frequent telephone

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: Constant: inside. Occasional: outside. Never: extremes of temperature/humidity
