Description
The Lead IT Auditor is responsible for conducting comprehensive IT audits to enhance the cybersecurity posture and ensure compliance with industry standards. This role supports James Madison University's Audit and Management Services (AMS) mission to provide independent assurance and consulting services that improve university operations, promote efficiency, and protect university assets. The auditor may also serve as a technology advisor, providing recommendations for IT improvements and serving on special projects as needed.
Major responsibilities include (and not limited to)
- Conduct external vulnerability scanning, firewall security assessments, and operational security reviews.
- Perform audits of server configurations, database architecture security, and network scanning processes.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 27002 standards, internal university policies, and State / Federal regulations.
- Develop detailed audit reports highlighting areas of improvement and risks.
- Assess internal accounting controls to ensure operational efficiency and asset protection.
- Verify contractor services align with contract provisions and University standards.
- Provide strategic guidance on IT security policies and practices.
- Present audit findings and recommend improvements.
- Serve as a resource for research, implementation, troubleshooting, and technical tasks supporting JMU IT staff.
