As a Senior Accountant in our government contracting firm, you will be responsible for overseeing financial operations related to our government projects. This includes ensuring compliance with government regulations and standards, managing budgets, and preparing financial reports. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in government contracting, a strong understanding of federal acquisition regulations (FAR), and a proven ability to manage complex accounting activities. Responsibilities
- Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
- Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to project future revenues and expenses.
- Develop, implement, modify, and document recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current technology.
- Coordinate and prepare internal and external financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Prepare budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans.
- Achieve budget objectives by scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
- Provide financial analysis and guidance on the overall business performance.
- Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect operations by keeping financial information and plans secure.
- Assist with annual audits and provide recommendations for improving procedures and systems for initiating corrective actions.
- Allocate expenditures to correct accounts according to departmental budgets.
- Other duties or ad hoc requests that may be assigned by management
Required Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) preferred.
- 5 years of accounting experience, particularly in a government contracting environment.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and federal acquisition regulations (FAR).
- Proficient in accounting software and Excel.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
