Social Skills Program Facilitator
Job Description: The Social Skills Program Facilitator will work directly with teens and adults with disabilities in group settings, utilizing aspects of applied behavior analysis (ABA) principles to develop their social and life skills in a fun and meaningful way. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with individuals with diverse needs, has experience in creating person-centered learning opportunities and other activities, and is dedicated to fostering the growth of social and life skills with our members.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Facilitate social skills groups, focusing on verbal and non-verbal communication, social interaction, problem-solving, and friendship development for teens and adults with disabilities
- Occasionally develop and implement group plans that are tailored to the needs of members and the program itself
- Utilize ABA principles to address behaviors and promote positive social interactions, while ensuring that interventions are culturally sensitive, and trauma informed.
- Consistent demonstration of patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt to various needs of the members to provide a positive and supportive experience.
- Adhere to a fixed schedule, ensuring continuity of care for our members and consistent participation in programs.
- Report on member progress, program outcomes, and any incidents or high-risk behaviors to the Program Director.
- Demonstration of strong interpersonal skills by collaborating with and maintaining open and effective communication with other staff
Qualifications
Minimum Experience:
- 18 years of age or older
- High school diploma
- Valid driver’s license
- CPR and First Aid training (or willingness to obtain)
- Passing of a background check
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand and walk for an extended period
- May be required to climb stairs, walk, run, stoop, kneel, and crouch
- Must be able to lift at least 20lbs
Preferred Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in special education, psychology, recreation, social work, or similar field
- Knowledge and understanding of autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
- 1 years' experience working with teens and adults with disabilities in community recreation or life enrichment setting
- Current or previously held experience as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)
Schedule:
- Saturdays: 9:45am-1:15pm or 9:45am-4:15pm
- Ability to make a commitment to working Fridays and/or Saturdays from 5:30pm-9:30pm
