What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clerk/Typist (Livingston County Residents Only) position at Livingston County?
This work involves performing routine clerical duties involving a skilled level of typing/keyboarding or in assisting in the performance of more difficult or responsible clerical work. The work is performed under direct supervision permitting some exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Detailed instructions may be given for new or difficult assignments. An employee in this class may be required to undergo training to develop and/or increase skills in the operation of various word processing programs. In the County service, employees in this class obtain training and experience which can lead to higher levels of work assignments and responsibilities in their respective agencies. This position differs from the Clerk and Typist positions since its responsibilities are not concentrated in either area, but requires work to be performed in both areas. Does related work as required.
Part-time service will be given prorated credit toward experience requirements.
Clerk /Typist – C in all divisionsPROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT NOTICE:
An individual who receives a provisional appointment must take the examination for the position title on the next occasion it is offered. In order to be eligible for a permanent appointment to the position, the provisional appointee must pass the exam and be ranked 1, 2, 3, or be tied in score with the individual ranked number 3 of those who are willing to accept appointment to the position. It should be understood that even if the provisional appointee is eligible for appointment, the employer may choose another candidate to fill the position on a permanent basis. Questions regarding provisional appointments should be directed to the Livingston County Human Resources Department.
- Types/word processes forms, form letters, transcripts, invoices, vouchers, records, payroll schedules, reports, title searches, judgments, lis pendens, index cards, time cards, envelopes, and similar materials;
- Transcribes dictation and/or longhand copy;
- Files correspondence, memoranda, reports, and other materials;
- Makes entries on cards, bills, or in ledgers/spreadsheets from original sources;
- Maintains time records and payroll data;
- Assists in the preparation of routine reports;
- Answers telephone - providing information to callers, taking messages, making appointments, and transferring calls as needed;
- Collects money and accounts for monies received;
- Operates copying machines and other office machines;
- Makes arithmetical computations and compiles simple statistical reports;
- May prepare duplicating mats, masters, or stencils;
- May relieve telephone switchboard operators;
- May open, sort, and distribute mail and may operate mail equipment;
- May maintain inventory and carry out distribution of supplies;
- May act as receptionist - giving information and directing the public; and
- Performs other related duties.
