Under supervision, assists and participates in planning, organizing and providing a variety of educational and socialization activities and care for toddler and/or preschool-aged children in a learning laboratory classroom setting; assists in observing, monitoring and recording children's development and behavior; interacts with children and encourages positive learning; and performs related duties as assigned.

  • Location: LAC or PCC
  • Salary: Range 18 $3,463.49 - $4247.08 Monthly
  • Advanced salary placement: Generally, new employees start at the first step on the salary schedule. Advanced salary placement may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

  • Eligibility list: We reserve the right to use an established eligibility list for vacancies in this classification. The eligibility list will be valid for 12 months once approved by the Personnel Commission.

Duties

:

Child Development Center Associate Teachers, under the supervision of a Child Development Center Teacher, assist in planning and providing care, guidance and developmentally appropriate learning and socialization experiences for toddler and/or preschool-aged children to encourage and facilitate positive social and cognitive learning. Duties are carried out in a learning laboratory classroom setting with District Child Development and Education

Studies (CDES students, some of whom may also be parents of the children in the classroom, both observing and participating in classroom programs and activities. Observations may be conducted via observation rooms, live camera recordings or in-classroom study.

CDC Associate Teacher is distinguished from CDC Teacher in that incumbents in the latter class are accountable for supervising and maintaining the classroom environment to meet Center and state requirements. Additionally, Teachers act as mentor Teachers to Practicum students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:

Education, Training and Experience:

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is meeting the minimum educational course requirements including child growth and development, or human growth and development; child family and community, or child and family; and program/curriculum, with passing grades at an accredited or approved college or university; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

  • Possession of a Child Development Permit (CDP) at the Associate Teacher level or above issued by the California Commission on Credentialing (CTC) prior to employment. It is the employee's responsibility to renew and maintain the Child Development Permit during their employment with the District.
  • Employees must meet the requirements for Associate Teacher within the period specified in regulations and accreditation requirements.
  • Results of a TB test performed within 60 days of hire date.
  • Valid First Aid/Adult and Pediatric CPR Certificate dated within one year prior to hire date.
  • Current Adult and Pediatric CPR Certificate with Health & Safety Component (15 hours) if necessary.
  • Fingerprints, Child Abuse Index, and FBI check submitted and cleared to the Department of Justice and on file with/or reported to the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division prior to employment.

Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements, and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed

Incomplete or late applications will be disqualified from further consideration. Qualified candidates will be notified in writing if they are moving forward in the selection process.

  • If the position requires a college degree, transcripts or copy of a diploma, the required document must be attached at the time of application. Unofficial transcripts are accepted during this phase. For experience substitution in lieu of education, please make sure to attach a statement clearly outlining how your additional experience covers the education requirement, on a year-for-year basis, and qualifies you to be considered for this position.
  • If you participate in and fail any examination segment, you must wait a period of 90 days (~3 months) to test again for the same classification.

The following examination segments may be utilized during the selection process:

  • Minimum Qualifications Screening: (Pass/Fail)
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) application review: (Pass/Fail)
  • Oral Panel Interview: (100%)
  • Final Interview: With Hiring Authority and Committee
  • PLEASE NOTE: The District reserves the right to utilize a flexible pass point (cut-off score) on any test part, and/or modify any test part. Examination procedures are subject to change as deemed necessary by the Executive Director, Classified Human Resources.*
