Duties
Tech Duties include but are not limited to:
- Assemble and prepare bikes for sale.
- Install accessories selected for bikes (stems, handlebars, lights, saddles, racks, kickstands, water bottle cages, etc).
- Provide stellar customer service through direct and detailed interactions with customers, sharing product and technical knowledge as appropriate.
- Evaluate the mechanical condition of bikes, estimate the cost of repairs and provide an educated assessment that includes a completion date.
- Complete work orders accurately and fully (record parts needed and/or ordered, work performed, pricing, notes to customer and process to next status or location)
- Meet or exceed shop production standards.
- Operate cash register as necessary.
- Report or record replacement parts, inventory and supply shortages to the manager.
- Maintain shop cleanliness, including individual workspace and common space areas
- Install new tubes/tires/brake pads, adjust brakes/derailleurs, align/tru wheels, bleed brakes, etc
- Suggest and sell products within the service department (new chains, cassettes, grips, saddles, pedals, etc)
- Other duties as needed/ assigned.
Manager Duties include but are not limited to:
- Train, mentor, coach and manage new and existing service staff
- Write at least 50% of the works orders
- Manage workflow and service performed
- Manage communications from Service Department to customers
- Check and maintain mechanical standards on everything leaving the shop
- Manage service inventory processes, including ordering, receiving and cycle counting
- Manage and control service costs and profitability
- Set goals and guide service staff on hitting them
- Find efficiencies by reviewing service reports
- Keep staff engaged, motivated, on target and hitting goals
- Demonstrate a commitment to your staff, your peers, supervisors and the mission and values of the shop
- Work in collaboration with the Sales Manager in directing the performance of sales and service staff for the store
- Meet with staff and owners regularly to review wins, misses and set new action items and goals
Requirements
Requirements include but are not limited to:
- Minimum 5 years experience working as a technician/mechanic in a bike shop
- Minimum 2 years experience working as a manager
- Experience with current road and mountain bike technology & able to keep up-to-date on all technology
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment & able to accommodate multiple customers at once
- Ability to plan effectively and stay a step ahead of shop's needs
- Interest in increasing sales through service while working in a team environment that's committed to growth
- Ability to engage, motivate and help develop leadership skills in those around them
- Ability to hold self and team accountable to action items and goals set
- A commitment to delivering the best possible experience for customers
- Available to work FT which includes Saturdays
- Ability to periodically lift 50 pounds
- Willing & able to cross over from service to sales when needed without issues
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of Ascend POS
- Experience with Microsoft Excel
- Has worked in a Trek dealership previously
