What You Will Do
As the Deputy Division Leader, you will report to the Division Leader for Radiation Protection (RP). You will support the DL with the leadership, technical oversight, and management of institutional RP services, providing worker health, protection, and safety, emergency response (onsite & offsite), regulatory compliance, and active and legacy nuclear and radiological facility operability. You will support strategic planning and tactical execution in support of Directorate goals for business and operational excellence. Exceptional communication and customer service to sustain effective relationships with principal mission stakeholders is essential. Emphasis will be placed on developing a long-term strategy to ensure that the Division has staffing, resources, and funding necessary to meet future programmatic mission needs. Other responsibilities include supporting the DL in resource allocation, succession planning, mentoring, recruiting, and retaining qualified RP staff and using fact-based decision making to anticipate and resolve RP issues.

• Expert knowledge of 10CFR835 and associated Radiation Protection policy and standards, as well as experience implementing such standards in complex and diverse work environments.
• Advanced experience managing large, complex, technical organizations to include the management and supervision of personnel, budget preparation and administration, project management, and leading business process improvement and innovation.
• Proven record of managing an organization in strategic and tactical planning, setting and achieving high quality standards and organizational goals, team building, teaming with peers, employee and program development, improvement of service delivery, communications, organization, and execution of projects and deliverables.
• Expert-level knowledge of radiation protection program development and administration under federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, as well as DOE requirements. Expert level knowledge of and experience with radiation protection-related risk assessments and corrective actions.
• Exemplary oral and written communications skills and ability to interact with both internal and external customers, Laboratory organizations, management, clients (DOE, NNSA), regulators, industry, and other stakeholders to prioritize work to meet customer needs. Demonstrated ability to recognize and act on opportunities to influence direction, policy and vision using these skills.
• Advanced experience executing sound business practices and promoting objectives in the following areas: performance improvement, safety, quality, security, environment, health, human resources, and diversity.
• Expert-level leadership characteristics, including personal integrity and accountability, fiduciary responsibility, trustworthiness in relationships, commitment to teamwork, and commitment to quality and excellence in programs and operations.
• Advanced experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions and recommending teaming solutions on problems affecting radiation protection programs.
• Expert-level ability to identify, define, analyze, and approve appropriate work processes and work hazards in radiological/nuclear facilities. This position requires substantial successful management experience.
Training/Certifications: Relevant professional certifications preferred (e.g. ABHP, NRRPT, and/or other relevant certifications).
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree, from an accredited institution, in a relevant field of study and 12 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Ten years in a technical leadership and/or management position. Master's degree or Ph.D. in relevant field of study is desired.
This position may be subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities. This DOE Order establishes entry-level requirements to ensure employees in the positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
