What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Maintenance Support Specialist 1/2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Maintenance Support Specialist 1 (MSS 1) ($56,300 - $87,200)

The Maintenance Support Specialist (MSS) reports to the F10 Work Control Maintenance Manager and supports the MSS-F10 Organization by performing scheduling functions utilizing P6, Asset Suites. Attends Plan of the Days and sets work orders to Working/Finished status in Assets Suites. The MSS assists in development, monitors, and validates the accuracy and auditing of performance data, reports, and other statistical information.

Maintain databases and other programs as needed to develop performance measurements and other required data administration. Evaluate processes, programs, and procedures, for potential improvements.

Safety and security are the primary responsibility of all Laboratory employees. The MSS assures safety and security compliance, maintains, and retains required safety and security training, and makes safety and security an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to pause or stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.

The successful candidate will be expected to:


  • Identify scope of scheduled activities. Determine schedule dates for work activities within a discipline area or specialty. Determine milestones to support project schedule.Assist in determining leveling decisions. Perform quantity and manpower resource loading for assigned schedules.
  • Assist discipline groups in determining what information is required from other disciplines to support scheduled activities and how to interface with the assigned discipline or specialty.
  • Provide schedule knowledge on a continuous basis to assist in discipline planning and interfacing with others.
  • Perform schedule monitoring, including identifying critical activities and updating functions for specific applications, disciplines, or specialties. Assist in the development of requirements for updating and monitoring the schedule.
  • Prepare and develop schedule study information, as assigned. Evaluate job hours/staffing, and schedule logic for a specific discipline or specialty.
  • Develop an understanding of governmental regulations and Laboratory policies impacting the maintenance program to ensure compliance.
  • Aid in gathering information necessary to develop, monitor and validate accuracy, and auditing performance data, reports, and other statistical information to ensure compliance with safety, quality, budget and schedule.
  • Aid in evaluating processes, programs, and procedures for potential improvements.
  • Under direct supervision, provide general issues management support, assists in reviews and compiles data, and supports management assessment activities.
  • Aid in training for facility maintenance personnel on maintenance programs.
  • Understand and adhere to all Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to maintenance and quality assurance programs.
  • Prioritize, organize, and follow through with completing multiple tasks.
  • Work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines with interruptions, and while sometimes changing priorities.
Maintenance Support Specialist 2 (MSS 2) ($67,800 - $107,700)

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level:
  • Determine inter-discipline constraints or interfaces that define activity sequences. Develop and apply installation rates to quantity takeoffs and developed quantities within a discipline or other specialty.
  • Develop quantity release or installation curves for a specific discipline or specialty.
  • Review quantity logs to ensure total quantities are represented for a particular discipline or specialty.
  • Assist in developing required job-hour expenditure for a specific discipline or specialty.
  • Prepare schedule, staffing, and quantity progress and performance reports for assigned disciplines or specialties.
  • Work with performing organizations and units to coordinate work sequences with the total project plan. Conforms work sequence and activity durations per project's execution plan for a specific discipline or specialty.


What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Communication: Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication. Ability to conceptualize and fully communicate major elements of processes supporting the maintenance program to both technical and non-technical personnel. Demonstrated ability to work independently. Experience working in a large organizations, programs, or projects with significant fiscal and programmatic scope. Ability to effectively interface with all levels of management and staff.

Business Processes and Systems: Basic knowledge of and experience with policy and strategy performance assurance, metrics, including policy and procedure development, implementation, and enforcement. Full knowledge of and experience with document control and records management. Experience in performing, monitoring, and reviewing planning and scheduling functions, including schedule development, schedule control, and schedule analysis.

Technical: Knowledge and experience in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting facility maintenance and performance assurance; demonstrated ability to prepare and present reports.

Technology:
Knowledge of using personal computer operating systems and general computer applications and software, including several basic software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Additional Job Requirements for Maintenance Support Specialist 2:


In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

Strategic Communication: Ability to professionally communicate elements of facility maintenance processes to stakeholders, including technical and non-technical staff, in both verbal and written formats.

Business Processes and Systems: Full understanding of and experience with policy and strategy performance assurance, metrics, including policy and procedure development, implementation, and enforcement. Working knowledge of and experience with document control and records management, and a clear understanding of work hazards, safety practice policies and procedures.

Technical Competency: Substantiated and direct experience performing work using any computerized LANL facility management tools that may include Footprints, Asset Suite, EDRMS, etc.



Desired Qualifications:

  • Substantiated and direct experience performing work using any computerized LANL facility management tools that may include Footprints, Asset Suite, EDRMS, etc.
  • Working knowledge of the Laboratory's quality assurance policies, practices, and procedures, the legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting maintenance management.
  • Basic knowledge of Laboratory business and maintenance program systems; Working knowledge of the Laboratory's quality assurance policies, practices, and procedures, the legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting maintenance management.
  • Experience and knowledge in the Project Controls function and sub functions of cost and schedule.
  • Knowledge and experience using schedule software tools such as Primavera P6.


Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a minimum of 2 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Position Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
