Afternoon/evening Spanish-speaking nanny

We are a family in Los Feliz looking for a Spanish-speaking nanny three afternoons/week (5 hours/day). Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Our ideal candidate is energetic, creative, curious, and educated. English is optional; we speak Spanish at home. No nanny experience needed, but driving is necessary. The job is primarily to work with our 9 year-old boy after school, then help with our 3 year-old twin girls at bedtime.

More about us: We have a 9 year-old boy, 6 year-old girl, and 3 year old twin girls. I work part time (Wednesdays and Thursdays) and my husband travels a lot for work. We already have a wonderful nanny who comes 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM on Wednesdays and Thursdays. She is friendly, energetic, and a great team player.

We are looking for a new afternoon nanny to share the childcare responsibilities. The older kids are moving from bilingual to English-only school this year, so an important role of our nanny is to facilitate their learning, reading, and writing in Spanish.

We use Montessori principles at home, trying to raise kids who are responsible, creative, and kind. They have daily chores including unloading the dishwasher, putting away their clothes, and keeping their toys organized. Our nannies help teach them to be good citizens of our home.

Responsibilities:

• Pick up my son from school in Eagle Rock.
• Share afternoon childcare with me or our daytime nanny. The two nannies may bring the four kids on outings to the LA Zoo, Griffith Park, playgrounds, the library, or other places. You can also split up the kids according to their interests.
• Supporting the older kids with reading, writing, and learning in Spanish.
• Maintaining order and cleanliness in the home, and involving the kids in age-appropriate housework (daily chores, cleaning up spills, etc.). I do the deep cleaning. The kids are responsible for keeping their play areas organized, but they need reminders and guidance.

Requirements:

• Fluent in Spanish, written and spoken. Our nanny must understand enough English to drive safely and read labels on foods and cleaning products.
• No nanny experience needed. I would love to find someone with a background in writing and/or teaching.
• First aid and CPR certification or willing to complete certification.
• Fully vaccinated (COVID, influenza, TDAP).
• Clean driving record and a reliable vehicle to pick up my son from school. We have a minivan for the nannies to use, but our other nanny will be using it to pick up my daughter from school.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States. We use a payroll system (W2).
• You must love working with children: helping them play, learn, and grow.
• You must have a sense of humor to take pleasure in the sweet and funny moments.

Sample schedule:

• 2:35 Pick up my son from school (1:35 on Tuesdays) and give him a snack.
• On Thursdays, bring my son to his piano lesson at 3:15. The music school is 0.5 miles from his elementary school.
• Work with my son for 30-60 minutes on reading, writing, and/or learning something interesting in Spanish. My 6 year old girl may want to participate as well.
• If there is time, they can then do an outing, play outside, and/or do a creative activity.
• 5:00-5:30 Help kids clean up the afternoon mess and set the table for dinner. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, I arrive home around 5:00 and start dinner.
• 5:30 Help me serve dinner and reinforce table manners. Help kids clean up after themselves once they are done eating.
• 6:00-6:30 Kids complete any unfinished homework and/or play while we finish cleaning up after dinner.
• 6:30-7:15 Help me get the kids ready for bed: bathing as needed, pajamas, straightening up their rooms, reading books.

Location: Los Feliz. Our home is 1 mile north of Children’s Hospital LA and the Vermont/Sunset stop of the Metro Red Line.

Compensation: $24-$28/hour depending on responsibilities and qualifications (experience as a school teacher, for example). Overtime ($36-$42/hour) if you ever work 9 hours at a time.

Somos una familia en Los Feliz que buscamos una niñera tres tardes a la semana (5 horas al día). Martes, miércoles, y jueves.

Nuestra candidata ideal es enérgica, creativa, curiosa y educada. El inglés es opcional; hablamos español en casa. No se necesita experiencia como niñera, pero se necesita experiencia manejando en Los Angeles. El trabajo consiste principalmente en cuidar a nuestro hijo de 9 años después de la escuela y luego ayudar con las niñas de 3 años a la hora de dormir.

Requisitos:

Ubicación: Los Feliz. Nuestra casa está a 1 milla al norte de Children’s Hospital LA y de la parada Vermont/Sunset de la Línea Roja del Metro.
