What are the responsibilities and job description for the Boat Camp Leader position at Los Gatos Community?
Assist with organizing leading and conducting a variety of recreational activities for varying age groups and skill levels and oversee children participating in the activities at Vasona Lake. Establish and maintain rapport with participants, parents, staff and other community partners. Ensure a safe environment and proper use of site facilities, supplies, equipment; Assist with enforcing site rules.
- Supervise children in summer boating camp (ages 9-15)
- Assist with the organization of games and daily boating activities
- Assist with daily attendance records
- Lead boating instruction and water activities for Boating Camp, Birthday Party Packages, Stand-Up Paddle Board Classes, etc.
- Follow and enforce all rules of the lake and summer camps
- Monitor dock area, distribute life jackets, and ensure proper usage for campers and/or customers
- May assist customers with rental agreements
- Monitor activities, keep area clean and orderly
- Keep supervisor informed of inventory needs
- Observe necessary precautions to ensure the safety of recreation participants and renters
- Provide routine first aid in case of minor injuries
- Must pass the online Boat Safety Course prior to operating the safety boat
- First Aid/CPR Certification required (may be obtained upon hire)
No experience required. Must be at least 17 years old at time of hire.
Ability to:
- Read, write & comprehend instructions and memos.
- Write short correspondence.
- Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to children, parents, community members, and other employees of the organization.
- Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must have own transportation.
- Fingerprint and TB clearance are a condition of employment and must be obtained prior to start date.
- CPR/First Aid certification and Mandated Trainings required, but may be obtained within 10 days of hire date.
- IF under 18 years of age a valid work permit is required.
