What are the responsibilities and job description for the Traffic Guard (School Crossing Guard) position at Louisville Metro Government?
• Records license plate numbers of vehicles disregarding traffic laws and reports infractions.
• Monitors and directs the actions of children to ensure safe crossings.
• Escorts children across streets, roads and highways.
• Directs traffic at street intersections near county school drive entrances.
• Expedites traffic flow at county school locations to assist buses arriving and departing.
• Directs the flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic during emergencies, special events and general congestion.
• Performs related work.
- Must not have been convicted of a felony or have any criminal action pending against them.
- Misdemeanor convictions will be considered on an individual basis.
- Must submit to a pre-employment drug screening.
- Must submit to a pre-employment polygraph test.
- Must wear safety equipment as mandated by OSHA.
- Applicants who have illegally bought or used marijuana, including medicinal cannabis, within six months of application will be disqualified.
- Applicants who have illegally sold marijuana, including medicinal cannabis, within one year of application will be disqualified.
- Applicants who have illegally bought, sold, or used any controlled substance or narcotic drug, other than marijuana, without a prescription within six years of application will be disqualified.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work.
- Must be able to maneuver in and out of heavily travelled roadways/intersections.
- Must be able to handle or grasp a stop sign overhead while directing pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
- Must be able to handle and move barricades and cones into and out of roadways/intersections.

This position is Part Time and Seasonal:
20 hours per week - Nine (9) Months Per Year
