SUMMARY:
As a member of the healthcare team, the Lead Nurse Practitioner participates in patient care by making assessments and helping patients manage and understand their chronic illness, acute episodes and exacerbation. The Lead Nurse Practitioner will be collaborating with the nurse manager will act as clinical leader for clinical staff, mentoring and supporting new and new-grad providers as well as allied healthcare professionals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide Patient-Centered Care: Conduct health assessments, physical exams, and review medical histories to address short- and long-term patient needs while staying committed to high-quality, efficient patient care.
- Assess patient health: Interview patients, perform physical examinations, obtain, update, and study medical histories.
- Determine abnormal conditions: Administer or order diagnostic tests (e.g., x-rays, electrocardiograms, laboratory studies) and interpret test results.
- Perform therapeutic procedures: Administer injections and immunizations, suture, manage wounds and infections.
- Educate and counsel: Empower patients with knowledge about their health, describe therapeutic regimens, give information on normal growth and development, discuss family planning, and wellness through counseling and guidance.
- Documentation & Compliance:
- Prepare clear, complete, accurate, and legible medical records for each patient under your care. Type, edit, and electronically sign all office notes, reports and records using EMR in accordance with company policies.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment in compliance with company and state procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
- Follow legal and professional requirements including studying existing and new legislation, expecting future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, recommending management on needed actions.
- Collaborate with a Team: Work collaboratively and pro-actively with other providers and health care practitioners within Lowell CHC to efficiently treat patients, and plan coordinated, efficient, and thoughtful care (including transfer), all in a timely manner.
- Act as a clinic leader, especially when the Nurse Manager is not in-clinic. Provide support and mentorship to new-graduate providers as well as other clinic staff.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, setting up personal networks, and taking part in professional societies.
- Act as a preceptor to new provider staff, providing information, educational opportunities, and experiential growth opportunities.
- Master’s degree in Nursing.
- FNP License Required
- Current Massachusetts Nurse Practitioner License Board Certification in appropriate discipline.
- Current valid and unrestricted DEA and Massachusetts Controlled Substance licensure for prescriptive authority.
- Relevant experience: Clinical experience in emergency medicine, urgent care, or ambulatory care setting is preferred.
- Current CPR/BLS Certificate.
- Strong leadership skills: Willing and able to mentor provider as well as non-provider clinic staff.
- Excellent team player: Enjoy collaborating with others and being a part of a strong team dynamic.
- Frequent standing and walking for up to 80% of the workday or shift.
- Some lifting, pushing or pulling required up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to see and distinguish color.
- Ability to perform CPR (chest compressions).
- Frequent contact with patients, families, visitors, nurses and other department staff.
- Occasional stress and pressure caused by multiple simultaneous demands.
- May be exposed to various infectious diseases. Universal precautions and techniques are included in orientation and the availability of protective wear is supported and encouraged when the employee is at risk for exposure.
