FULL-TIME Public Works Laborer
Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County is accepting applications for a Public Works Laborer position. This full-time position will perform routine public works related maintenance and construction tasks, including a wide variety of skilled manual tasks and extends to the operation of light to medium sized automotive equipment.
A valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License but CDL Class B preferred. The ability to drive manual transmission vehicles preferred.

SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Director of Utilities, this full-time position will perform routine public works related maintenance and construction tasks, including a wide variety of skilled manual tasks and extends to the operation of light to medium sized automotive equipment.
Possesses excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and members of the general public. Public Works Laborers must possess the ability to follow verbal instruction, communicate with co-workers and members of the public, work as a team and perform their duties without constant supervision. Public Works Laborers often work outside and may have to endure extremes in temperature or exposure to rain or snow.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Maintain and repair township facilities, equipment and buildings by performing a variety of general maintenance and mechanical repair work
Operate a variety of hand and power tools; assist in routine maintenance of such equipment; assist with collection and cleaning of tools and materials after utilization
Maintains municipal grounds by mowing, cleaning drainage ditches, installing fences and guard rails, cutting trees, laying sod, etc.
Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor
Assist in skilled trades such as maintenance and repair of buildings or equipment using hand and power tools
Cut, fit, lay, repair, clean and flush storm drainage mains and related infrastructure
Perform required labor involving in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, sewer manhole and catch basin cleaning
Install and repair street/road signs along township or state highway system
Assists in the forming and pouring of concrete; patching potholes on township streets and parking lots
Operate trucks of pickup to ton-and-a-half class to include dump trucks not requiring a CDL license
Act as a flagger when needed to alert traffic and protect the crew when required
Must be able to operate when hired or willing to learn upon employment, the operation of mowers, weed trimmers, chainsaws, a wide variety of hand and power tools, pickup trucks, snow blowers, dump trucks, tractors and backhoes. Will be exposed to noxious odors, machinery with moving parts and high noise levels
Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards
Must respond 24/7 to an emergency condition as determined by Director of Utilities and/or Township Manager
Regular and predictable attendance is required
Must work cooperatively with others
Must relate to Township citizens and members of the general public in a professional, courteous and respectful manner.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a High School Degree or GED equivalent
Must have three (3) years’ work experience working in a construction related involving the operation of trucks or other related light automotive equipment, or equivalent vocational training courses
Possession of a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s license required but CDL Class B preferred
Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles preferred
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended period of time
Ability to work with others
Ability to be on call for emergencies to work any time of day or night
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sit and perform fine manipulations frequently; stand, walk, climb, bend, crouch, kneel, crawl, handle tools and vehicle controls, lift and carry up to 50 lbs., push and pull up to 50 lbs., and reach at all levels occasionally.
Withstand exposure to weather, vibration, high noise levels (with protection), traffic hazards and dusty conditions occasionally.
Work with moving machinery, slippery and uneven surfaces, confined spaces and unprotected heights occasionally.
