Duties and Responsibilities | Loyola University Chicago is seeking an Assistant Professor to perform research in the area of topology of manifolds combining techniques from homotopy theory, category theory, and geometric topology; Mentor research projects of young researchers at both undergraduate and graduate level; Teach a wide range of mathematics classes, from freshmen to graduate level; Organize seminars and reading groups within the department; Participate in service activities including committee service. Up to 10% travel required. |
Qualifications |
PhD in Mathematics plus 3 years related experience. Prior experience must include: Research expertise in the area of topology of manifolds combining techniques from homotopy theory, category theory, and geometric topology, including grant-writing to fund said research (4 years); Mentor research projects of young researchers at both undergraduate and graduate level, including projects involving minorities in mathematics (3 years); Communication skills to present at research seminars nationally and internationally, and to lecture mathematics at both undergraduate and graduate levels (3 years); Work as a team member to perform complex tasks in managing departmental affairs (such as service on a hiring committee for a faculty position) (3 years). |
