Staff Accountant I
General Description:
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant should be conversant in MIP be able to provide support to colleagues in the department. In concert with Senior Services Division entities, works with multi-site program and administration staff. You should be able to maintain a general ledger and ensure compliance with general accepted accounting principles. You should have excellent communication, organizational and analytical skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Data entry with a focused-on timeliness and accuracy.
- Collaborating with internal departments to gather, analyze and interpret relevant financial information.
- Preparing financial analyses and reports.
- Assist with the month-end and fiscal year end close.
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assisting with annual audit preparation.
- Assist with requests from various departments and management.
- Identify issue(s) and direct problem(s) that remain unsolved to appropriate position.
- Back up, at a second level, for Staff Accountant II responsibilities.
- Maintain a positive teamwork attitude towards the overall program.
- Assist Accounting Manager, as needed.

Qualifications Requirements:

Education and/or Experience, Ability:
AA Degree or equivalent in accounting or a related field; and one or more years related experience in accounts receivable and general ledger reconciliations, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Non-profit experience preferred. ERP accounting software experience preferred.
Language Skills:
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret accounting journals, financial reports and other documents common to accounting or administrative functions. Ability to respond appropriately to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, staff members or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to management and to respond in writing to situations, as required by management. Must communicate effectively, anticipating needs and keeping staff informed of problems or issues.
Mathematical Skills:
Strong financial and record keeping skills. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of arithmetic and basic algebra.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions and propose appropriate, workable solutions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to operate a ten key calculator and work with any of several spreadsheet software programs and have basic word processing skills. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information and situations. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain a positive working relationships with a variety of personalities and situations. Positive, friendly demeanor. Must be detail-oriented. Ability to organize, prioritize and complete projects in a timely manner. Ability to meet deadlines, handle multiple tasks and constant interruptions. Courteous, reliable, flexible and punctual.
