What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recertification Specialist position at Macon Housing Authority?
SUMMARY
This position is primarily responsible for processing a variety of records and fiscal related data for housing assistance payments for participating owners and tenants. Conducts annual tenant reexaminations to determine eligibility for continued participation in the Section 8 program; serves as case manager for Section 8 tenants; prepares various reports, and works with other employees in the completion of job duties. Reports to the Recertification Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Conduct annual reexaminations; Distribute recertification letters and required notices; Schedule appointments, Interview clients; Verify income; Calculate rent, recoupments and utility allowances; Process payment documents, changes, and occupancy transfers.
- Confer with employers, organizations, and others to confirm client information.
- Briefs voucher holders on housing availability, housing options, lease obligations, equal rights, and program requirements.
- Guide voucher holders through the required steps to put the family’s unit under contract; Provide transfer packets and monitors client follow up.
- Monitor monthly and quarterly reports on the HUD website.
- Serve as ongoing case manager with assigned cases, which includes a high volume of telephone calls, computer queries, and necessary paperwork.
- Process interim changes in tenant files such as changes in TANF, child support payments, employment, unemployment, family composition, marriage, divorce, etc.; Amend lease contracts; Send documentation as required.
- Identify possible fraud cases and refers them to the supervisor.
- Perform home visits and relieves the front desk receptionist as requested.
- Maintain files and records and prepare reports as assigned.
- Assist in researching, developing, maintaining, and revising departmental forms, procedures, and control systems as needed. Prepare files, records, reports, etc., as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with one to two years of experience in general office and public contact work, preferably in the housing or social service field; or equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, STIPULATIONS
Must obtain HCV Rent Calculation Specialist certification within one year of hire. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license, proof of personal auto insurance, and a driving record acceptable to the Authority’s insurance carrier. Must be available to work overtime as business dictates.
