POSITION TITLE: Dental Director
STATUS: Exempt, Full-Time
LOCATION: Jackson, San Andreas, Mariposa, California TBD
STARTING SALARY: $280,134-$323,128 Annual
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Dental Director has overall responsibility for the delivery of quality dental services in the ambulatory health care environment. The Dental Director will coordinate the delivery of services with the Medical and Family and Community Health Services Departments. These services will be provided in a manner consistent with guidelines established by the organization, as well as State and Federal funding sources.
The position requires an awareness and keen appreciation of American Indian traditions, customs, and socioeconomic needs and the ability at all times to meet and deal effectively in contacts with Indian health organizations which requires tact, courtesy, discretion, resourcefulness and good judgment in handling functions of a sensitive nature.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. The Dental Director's primary work responsibility is patient care, whether performed by him/herself or other dental staff and includes the following services:
- Preventive Education
- Emergency Treatment
- Diagnostic
- Restorative Dentistry
- Periodontal Maintenance Therapy
- Prosthodontics
- Referrals for specialty care
- Referrals to other Health Center Departments
2. In addition to the direct delivery of patient care, the Dental Director will perform the following administrative functions:
- Monitor the quality assurance activities of the Dental Department.
- Develop and coordinate all oral health activities of the Health Center.
- Supervise the dental staff, including making recommendations for hiring, promoting and disciplinary action as appropriate.
- Conduct department meetings and represent the dental department at staff meetings and at meetings of professional groups.
- Insure that all dental staff carry our their duties in a manner consistent with Health Center Policies and program guidelines.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of all Dental Department activities.
- Develop Dental Department protocols and procedures.
- In the event of occurrences such as; epidemic outbreaks, poisonings, fires, major accidents, deaths from unnatural causes, or other catastrophes and unusual occurrences which threaten the welfare, safety or health of patients, will be responsible for notifying the Department of Health Services, the local health department and the local fire authority as required.
- Will be responsible to report such occurrences (as listed above) within twenty-four hours by telephone (and confirmed in writing) to the local health officer or the Department of Health Services as required. An incident report shall be retained on file by the clinic for one year.
- Comply with all MACT policies and procedures.
- Performs duties as requested or assigned by the Executive Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduation from an accredited dental college. Must have a license to practice dentistry in California.
- Minimum of two year's professional experience in dentistry and administrative experience desirable.
- Current CPR card.
- Must adhere to the MACT Health Board, Inc. Corporate Code of Conduct.
- Must provide monthly report to Board of Directors on activities during the month.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
- Must pass Occupational Health Screening.
- Must possess a valid form of identification as listed on the U.S. Department of Justice I-9 form, verified using the E Verify system.
- Clean DMV driving record and MACT auto insurance driving eligibility (determined by auto insurance carrier).
DESIRED ABILITIES:
- Authoritative knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of dentistry. Special knowledge in the prevention aspects or oral health and its related techniques and procedures. Experience and understanding of oral health education methods. Basic understanding of nutrition. Good working knowledge of administrative practices and procedures, teaching methods and rules, regulations, policies and standards related to Dental services. Must be able to apply principles of personnel administration to selection, placement and supervision of staff. Experience in working or desire to work in rural community setting.
