Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Shipping Coordinator (Export, Import & Domestic) to join our team at our facility in DeWitt, IA.
This role would be well suited to someone with high computer literacy and a strong attention to detail who thrives in a fast paced, dynamic environment with a willingness to learn and progress.
Training and relevant certifications will be provided through the onboarding period, and in future to ensure continued professional development within the role.
Essential Job Duties :
- Process bills of lading, purchase orders, and all documentation necessary to complete a domestic and / or export customer’s order.
- Follow appropriate procedures which are DOT, IATA and IMO requirements for transportation of hazardous materials.
- Ensure compliance with shipper and governing bodies instructions.
- Obtain quotes, schedule, and track shipments : air, ground, small packages, and ocean shipments.
- Maintain positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, such as customer service, freight forwarders and vendors.
- Make shipping arrangements with the freight forwarder and detailing INCO Terms, shipping weights, dimensions, classification of material and ship to and ship from addresses.
- Contribute to Import / Export Customs Compliance audits and meetings.
- Resolve freight and / or trucking claims.
- Ensure that shipping documentation is kept up to date and compliant.
- Assist the Shipping Manager / Supervisor to drive continuous improvement to the Safety Risk Assessment.
- Apply problem solving approach to simplify and optimize existing departmental processes.
- Any other departmental duties as required by line manager.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience of import and export shipping documentation essential.
- Experience of shipping hazardous materials is desirable but not essential.
- Computer literate with a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and works at high level of accuracy.
- Customer centered approach to tasks.
- Ability to manage internal and external stakeholders with a professional approach taken at all times.
- Occasional travel may be required to ensure on-boarding and ongoing training obligations are met.
