What are the responsibilities and job description for the Janitor position at Main Salvation Army?
BASIC PURPOSE
The purpose of this position is to provide janitorial assistance and support to the Janitor Lead and the overall department, it’s employees and volunteers. This position will work directly with personnel and volunteers as well as vendors and clients in providing varied semi-skilled work in the maintenance of the Salvation Army buildings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform routine cleaning of restrooms, office areas, atrium, kitchen, conference rooms, hall areas and sanctuary.
- Duties include but are not limited to sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors; spot cleaning carpets; emptying trash and replacing liners; cleaning and disinfecting sinks, urinals, toilets, handles and counters in restrooms; clean mirrors; clean glass in offices as needed; wash windows as needed; dust furniture, desk areas and windowsills; dust for cobwebs, run buffer as needed to polish floors.
- Set up equipment for scheduled programs and events including setting up tables, chairs, stages, and audio-visual equipment when needed.
- Tear down and cleanup of events after completion; accounts for all equipment and supplies
and ensures its return to storage, including tables, chairs, stages, and audio-visual equipment. Clean up includes commercial kitchen.
- Assist in warehouse as needed: this may include, Receiving, checking, recording, organizing, and storing items when asked. Taking inventories of items, ensuring that they are safely and properly stored. Dispatching and loading items in and out of the warehouse if required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum High School Graduate or GED
- Some knowledge of the standard tools and practices of the various tasks needed for property up-keep; and occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary to complete assignments.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in English.
- Ability to be flexible when needed for other duties.
- Ability to assist Janitorial Lead as needed with painting, carpentry, and other minor handyman duties.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds if needed and reach overhead.
- Ability to perform routine janitorial tasks.
