WHAT IS MPA, you ask?

Maine People’s Alliance (MPA) is a grassroots organization whose mission is to create a world where everyone has what they need, contributes what they can, and no one is left behind. By forming a community with people from all walks of life, we build power, inspire new leaders, heal divisions—particularly across lines of race—and win campaigns that change what is politically possible.

Why is door-to-door canvassing so important?

Field Organizers canvass, develop, and engage people where they are: at their door, in their community. They are often the first touch people have with our organization. The Field Team's operations motivate and empower new and current members to become more involved in creating political change in our communities together.

Why is it the best summer job?

MPA prioritizes developing leaders. The field canvassers are looking for leaders in the community and we are looking for leaders on the staff team! It is totally possible (and we love it when) you start as a canvasser and end the summer as a trainer or even team lead!

We take pictures of lawn gnomes. We have to clean the door dust off our knuckles after a rewarding day of hard work. We talk to people all day about talking to people all day. We are driven/drive people all over Maine and see the sunset on towns people vacation in. We learn the names of flowers, which grow in rare suburban habitats. We meet hundreds of dogs and cats. We are out and about exploring the world and gathering stories.

• An ability to work outside in various weather condition

• Values self-improvement, able to accept praise and constructive criticism while implementing feedback and evaluation.
• Good time management and the ability to work under pressure.

Limited-term positions start May 1st  and run through August, with opportunity for permanent positions.

Shifts 2:00pm-10:00pm Monday – Friday.

Pay starts at $21 per hour, plus bonuses and paid time off, with potential for advancement. (and you can join the UNION!)

Positions are available statewide, with base locations in Portland and Bangor.
