What a typical day as a Locate Technician might look like:
- Identify and map location and depth of utilities such as water, sewer, gas, cable, oil and electric lines
- Document interactions, site information and utilities in organizational software
- Use a variety of techniques (electrical, magnetic, GPS, blueprint analysis, and/or radar) to measure utilities
- Maintaining daily contact with utility managers, crews, homeowners and contractors, discussing locate issues
- Receiving daily jobs via computer/device
- Prioritizing your daily work by going through all locate requests to determine routing
- Reading and understanding utility-provided maps to assist in identification of underground utilities
- Ensuring that clients and contractors suffer no damages or injuries due to mis-located utilities
This job might be an outstanding fit if you:
- HSD, or equivalent education, is required
- 1-2 years' experience in utility location or similar work
- Ability to efficiently manage your daily schedule
- Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
- Flexibility and temperament to adapt to sudden challenges and changing work conditions
- Willingness to change schedule at short notice to respond to emergency calls
