What are the responsibilities and job description for the Merchandising Intern position at Maisonette?
A key stakeholder in executing our merchandising strategy and driving sales through managing product assortments. The role requires both a keen attention to detail as well as the ability to manage vendor relationships, select assortments, and discover opportunities to grow the business.
What You’ll Learn
- Develop a strong understanding of the role of a buyer by participating in day-to-day responsibilities such as market appointments, cross-functional meetings, assortment selection, sales recapping, sales planning, and more.
- Understand how to utilize historical data and industry trends in order to select assortments that will maximize sales
- Foster keen analytical skills through working with buyers to create sales recaps and opportunities to grow the business
- Learn how to communicate effectively and work as a team with your buyer to balance multiple priorities and gain highly valuable time management skills
- Collaborate cross-functionally to gain strong communication skills and become familiar with the roles and responsibilities of various parts of the retail industry including merchandising, marketing, operations, and creative.
- Gain valuable technical skills working with ecommerce systems, integration platforms, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Powerpoint, and more.
How You’ll Learn
- Work in partnership with your buyer to communicate with vendors daily in order to ensure a constant flow of new product to the site in order to drive sales
- Attend virtual and in-person market appointments to nurture vendor relationships, preview assortments, and discuss sales driving opportunities.
- Collaborate with your buyer to select assortments according to top product types, silhouettes, trends and historical sales.
- Assist with weekly and monthly sales reporting to hindsight performance and identify business opportunities to inform future strategies
- Perform competitor and industry research in order to help identify new brands and discover sales-driving opportunities
- Collaborate with marketing, operations, customer care, and creative teams as part of a collaborative work environment focused on providing the best customer experience.
- Provide critical troubleshooting support and act as a point person for resolving system issues related to inventory, integrations, and product information
About You
- Analytical thinker and problem solver
- Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of retail landscape, trends and emerging brands
- A keen eye and understanding of Maisonette's uniquely curated assortment and an aesthetic point of view
- Ability to understand analytics and data driven strategies
- Highly organized and able to prioritize competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Clear, collaborative communicator; ability to work cross functionally
