I. Position Summary
The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for assisting in all activities of the Physical
Plant Maintenance Department as assigned by the Maintenance Manager. This may include general work in plumbing, electrical and construction. Corrective, preventive and facility improvement maintenance are the primary responsibilities of this position. The position will work with the Maintenance Manager to assure that all duties and responsibilities are successfully completed.
II. Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
1. Perform daily preventive and corrective repair tasks on assigned campus buildings to insure safe and proper operation.
2. Complete daily work requests as requested for buildings assigned.
3. Safely and properly operate a variety of power and hand tools, to include a drill press, radial saw, table saw, welding equipment, pipe threading equipment.
4. Perform daily inspections of heating/cooling and ventilating systems of designated buildings.
5. Assist with remodeling and construction projects as assigned.
6. Perform emergency maintenance needs as directed. (On Call Duty)
7. Work with contractors on repair or renovation projects as assigned by the Maintenance
Manager.
8. Perform miscellaneous Service Department duties as needed.
9. Assist Maintenance Manager as needed.
10. Utilize proper personal protective equipment (PPE) to insure personal safety.
11. Operate forklift as needed.
12. A neat and clean appearance, including personal hygiene is required. A work uniform will be provided and is the only acceptable dress.
13. Work occasional overtime on weekends and special events when needed.(graduation, homecoming, athletic events, etc….)
14. Communicate all emergency conditions to the Maintenance
Manager.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.

VI. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must exhibit a personal understanding of, and operate in concert with the Mission statement and Foundational Principles of the University. Previous, applicable experience in the general maintenance field of at least 5 years is required. Experience in the areas of plumbing, electrical, heating/cooling, blue print and diagram reading and painting is desired.
A proven ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing is essential.
Proven effective relational skills are also required. A demonstrated ability to collaborate with a wide range of people and a demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively solve problems and complete projects independently is essential.
Proven time management skills, the ability to prioritize and record keeping abilities are essential. Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality of sensitive materials is essential. Current valid driver’s license is required. Hours per week may vary based on the needs and fluctuations of the position. Evening, weekend and overtime commitments will be necessary at times.
