We are seeking a highly skilled CMM Engineer/Programmer on behalf of a well-established and growing client in the plastics manufacturing industry, based in Winchester, VA. This critical role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the quality performance and continuous improvement of precision-molded components used in diverse markets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program and operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) to perform in-depth dimensional inspections of molded parts and tooling.
- Interpret complex engineering drawings and apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles to inspection processes.
- Create and maintain CMM programs to support new product introductions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, production, tooling) to resolve dimensional and quality-related issues.
- Support internal and external audits with accurate inspection data and documentation.
- Provide input for PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) and APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) activities.
- Analyze quality data using tools such as Minitab or equivalent for process capability studies, trend analysis, and root cause investigations.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience programming and operating CMMs (e.g., PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar platforms).
- Strong working knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5 standards.
- Plastics manufacturing experience is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and 3D CAD models.
- Familiarity with precision measuring instruments and dimensional inspection techniques.
Desired Skills & Competencies:
- Working knowledge of PPAP, APQP, and ISO/IATF 16949 quality systems.
- Experience with statistical analysis tools such as Minitab.
- Excellent attention to detail, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with internal teams and external partners.
Education & Experience:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a dimensional inspection or quality engineering role.
