Job Summary

This position begins Fall 2023.

Working within a learning college environment, this position instructs students from diverse backgrounds and/or cultures in Freshman Composition/Research, developmental English, English as a Second Language, and English Humanities in an on-site or synchronous environment.

Essential Functions

Supervises and instructs students from diverse backgrounds, in classroom and/or synchronous settings using a variety of presentation techniques.

Develops course syllabi and materials which include learning centered strategies to engage students and promote student success; creates instructional materials and develops curriculum that demonstrates innovation in teaching by focusing on student learning, retention and achievement; incorporates instructional technology and alternative delivery of courses; instructs in both traditional and non-traditional settings such as Learning.

Communities, short term courses, hybrid and live online courses; utilizes college and departmental assessment tools; participates in continuous evaluation and improvement of teaching and learning.

Assists and responds to problems/requests from students during in-person office hours, virtual office hours and electronic communication; serves on collaborative work teams with faculty, staff, administration and community stakeholders, keeps Department hours of accountability.

Remains current with new trends and developments in the field through attendance at conferences, seminars, workshops and active within the community; engages in the academic life of the college by participating in district-wide, campus and departmental activities including Department meetings, committees and projects.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A Master's degree (or higher) in the teaching field, or a Master's degree in any teaching field with 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field

2. EDU 250 - Teaching and Learning in the Community Colleges or equivalent must be completed within two years of date of hire.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Master's or higher earned degree in English with an emphasis on Rhetoric, Composition and/or English as a Second Language
  2. Experience teaching English, Freshman Composition, Rhetoric, and/or English as a Second Language in a community college setting for a minimum of 6 semesters in the last three (3) years
  3. Effective written communication skills (Will be screened by the committee utilizing submitted cover letter and resume)
  4. Knowledge of and/or experience with curriculum and teaching strategies to address the needs of students with a broad array of abilities
  5. Knowledge of the philosophy and principles of Guided Pathways and / or Fields of Interest


Special Working Conditions
  • Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving:
  • Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense
  • Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
  • May require numerous evenings or weekends
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs
