Job Summary
The Student Services Specialist Senior (Success Coach) provides a positive learning experience for students in GED test preparation, English language acquisition, and career training to support retention, persistence, completion, and transition to college and the workforce. Through communication and case management, establishes, maintains, monitors, and conducts follow-up with students on their attendance, assessment, academic progress, and completion; provides support services to guide and motivate students in overcoming obstacles to college success; provides formal presentations on college and career training pathway options; introduces students to college and career planning; collaborates regularly with college and career navigators, staff, and instructors; maintains required documents and tracks student data as required by the program.
Essential Functions
65% - Case Management, Collaboration, & Coaching: Implements customized learner-centered academic/career training pathway plans with assigned student caseload including proactive coaching through regular meetings, phone calls, and e-mails; builds rapport and facilitates the successful transition of new adult education students from orientation through college/career pathways; provides information for students seeking alternative high school equivalency pathways; makes referrals to other support services as appropriate. Collaborates consistently with navigators, instructors, counselors, and support staff to implement retention strategies and provide institutional resources, assistance, and guidance to students; performs other duties in support of program outcome goals and/or the operations of the location
25% - Data Tracking: Documents student interaction and maintains location-specific databases and/or spreadsheets; analyzes student attendance, tracks assessment and academic progress toward completion/attainment, and develops intervention strategies in collaboration with location team
10% - Orientation & Presentations: Make presentations in classes; maintains knowledge of current career training options and participates in routine team/departmental meetings and professional learning
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two years of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.
OR
An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.
Desired Qualifications
A. Front line customer service experience
B. Experience working with at-risk populations and/or students with underrepresented/underserved background or cultures
C. Experience providing college and career advising/coaching to students
D. Computer and technical skills (spreadsheets, word processing)
E. Experience monitoring student data
Special Working Conditions
May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs. Requires some mornings and / or weekends. May require occasional work at other college sites and some local travel. Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving:
