Project Manager: Job Purpose

The Project Manager oversees the planning, implementation, and tracking of specific short-term projects with specified deliverables

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan the Project - Define the scope of the project in collaboration with Production, Materials, and the Program Manager. Create a detailed work plan which identifies and sequences the activities needed for success. Determine necessary resources and develop plan to acquire as needed. Develop a plan for project completion that effectively allocates necessary resources. Determine the objectives and measures which will be used to evaluate the project at completion. Schedule and conduct a Kick off meeting – review deliverables, resources, schedule, tools used to measure project success. By distributing a Kick-Off meeting itinerary at least 2 working days before meeting and distribute a Project Plan to Leadership.

2. Staff the project

  • Identify skill sets and work with Production Management to assign critical personnel. Help Direct the project staff through communication with their supervisors. Contract outside skill sets or consultants as appropriate.

3. Implement the project

  • Execute the project per the Project Plan. Document project activities and make corrections to stay on plan: Acquisition of resources (Materials & Outside skill sets). Project milestones and critical quality assurance inspections. Notify members of the project immediately when corrective action is required. Update Program Manager with a written report on at least a weekly basis of project status. Monitor quality of work to make sure it meets standards.

4. Evaluate the Project

  • Ensure that the project deliverables are on time, within budget and at the required level of quality. Evaluate the project outcome as established during the planning phase and Kick-Off meeting.

Working Conditions and Specific Responsibilities

1. Project Managers work in both an office environment and on the shop floor. The Project Manager must work closely (interact personally several times a day) with the manufacturing staff to make sure that all questions are answered, all necessary resources are available, and quality of deliverables is maintained.

2. Project Managers may, at times, be required to assist in hands-on training of manufacturing techniques or skill sets. If the Project Manager does not possess the skill set, he must arrange training utilizing internal or contract sources of expertise

3. The Project Manager does not directly supervise any project personnel, but is responsible for reporting positive and negative performance of personnel working on the project to their supervisors

4. Work a standard work week with some evenings and weekends required to meet project milestones

Qualification

1. Education

  • College degree – ideally in a technical field (Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Math, Chemistry, etc.) but experience may override this requirement

2. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • At least 2 years’ management experience in a technical or manufacturing environment
  • Understand safe and appropriate use of all tools and equipment used in the manufacturing process.
  • Computer: Word processing, Spreadsheets, Email, and Internet

3. Personal Characteristics

  • Behave Ethically – understand and practice ethical behavior and business practices and ensure that the behavior of others involved in the project comply with those standards and the values of the company
  • Communicate Effectively: Speak, Listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner.
  • Problem solver – not one that just points out what is wrong. Assess problem situations to identify root cause, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions and ensure that steps are taken to resolve the problem long term.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness
  • Lead: Positively influence others to achieve results
  • Make Decisions: Assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and work toward the project goal
  • Organize: Set priorities, develop work schedules, monitor progress towards the goal, and track details/data/information/activities.
  • Plan: determine strategies to move the organization forward, set goals, create and implement action plans and evaluate the process and results.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
