Job Summary:
Position requires strong organizational and problem-solving skills to support one attorney, located at Markel Corporation’s headquarters in Glen Allen, Virginia.You will assist Markel Venture’s legal staff in all aspects of regulatory and compliance matters, corporate governance and transactional work and with the document preparation necessary to comply with federal, state and local regulations in the conduct of Markel Venture’s business activities.
The successful candidate is a highly motivated, self-sufficient individual that can thrive in a busy, collaborative team environment with minimal oversight. A positive attitude, willingness to learn and flexibility to respond to changing company needs are necessary.
Responsibilities:
- Collect and analyze data and records in support of Markel Corporation’s regulatory and compliance reporting and preparation of the same.
- Draft, maintain and coordinate company records including governance materials, company filings, agreements, resolutions, consents, amendments, minutes and other company records.
- Track and manage records related to legal entities, corporate structure and leadership changes.
- Prepare documents in connection with company activities such as inter-company agreements, payoff letters, release of mortgages and non-disclosure agreements.
- Assist in research pertaining to corporate and other matters; monitor legal publications for items of significance.
- Assist in litigation management (e.g., status charts, deadline tracking).
- Assist in managing and coordinating aspects of internal compliance and employment-related investigations.
- Interface with our partners at the Markel Ventures companies and serve as liaison between the legal department and the business.
- Monitor and route administrative documents for approvals.
- Organize and maintain Markel Ventures’ legal files.
Education
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
Work Experience/Skill Set
- 2-3 years of relevant work experience.
- Familiarity with corporate compliance programs and corporate entity formation, maintenance and governance.
- Superior grammar, writing, organization and communication skills. Strong attention to detail is essential.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel; willingness to learn any other new technology implemented.

Effective 10/1/21 we have implemented a hybrid return to work strategy that allows for three days in the office every week.
