Job Summary: The Software Engineer works in an Agile team in a multi-technology environment and contributes to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of business applications. Under the guidance of a Senior Software Engineer or Manager, collaborates with Business Analysts, key stakeholders, and other IT professionals to define technical specifications (based on business requirements) and system interfaces to develop and present business solutions. Software knowledge base will vary based on the applications being built. Creates and documents detailed designs for simple software applications or components applying agreed modelling techniques, standards, patterns and tools. Contributes to the design of components of larger software systems. Reviews own work. Designs, codes, verifies, tests, documents, amends and refactors simple programs/scripts. Applies agreed standards and tools, to achieve a well-engineered result. Applies data analysis, design, and modelling techniques to establish, modify or maintain a data structure and its associated components (entity descriptions, relationship descriptions, attribute definitions). Produces software builds from software source code. Conducts tests as defined in an integration test specification, records the details of any failures. Installs or removes hardware and/or software, and associated connections, using supplied installation instructions and tools. Conducts tests and corrects malfunctions. Documents results in accordance with agreed procedures. Assists with the evaluation of change requests. Contributes, as required, to investigations of problems and faults concerning the installation of hardware and/or software and confirms the correct working of installations. Defines test conditions for given requirements. Designs test cases and creates test scripts and supporting data, working to the specifications provided. Interprets, executes and records test cases in accordance with project test plans. Analyses and reports test activities and results. Identifies and reports issues and risks. Assists in the collection and reporting on supplier performance data. Assists with the routine day-to-day communication between the organization and suppliers. Assists in the investigation and resolution of issues relating to applications. Assists with specified maintenance procedures. Occasionally required to work late evening and weekends as needed. Education Required - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, other related field or military experience. Certification Insurance certifications or affiliation with industry group a plus Work Experience Experience assembling solutions using custom development, off the shelf systems, and 3rd party integrations. 3 years coding in multiple programming languages such as C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python 3 years using frameworks such as .NET, Grails, Node.js, or Flask 3 years of experience with relational databases and SQL – MS SQL Server preferred DevOps, CI/CD, test automation and cloud deployment Rapid prototype sprints to deliver new innovations to market. Experience setting up cloud-based innovation / sandbox environments for experimentation.
