Job Summary: This position will be responsible for the investigation of complex suspect insurance claims and other matters pertaining to fraud, waste, and abuse. The position will require the ability to work with other Markel Associates and interact with regulators and law enforcement agencies in bringing matters to a logical conclusion. Job Summary: The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) position is a great career opportunity if you possess a college degree, at least two years of experience in commercial insurance claims, premium auditing, underwriting or legal and love to research, investigate, utilize analytics and document your results. Markel's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) works with many different internal and external customers in protecting corporate assets. This is accomplished through detecting, identifying, mitigating, investigating and reporting risks. These risks can involve various forms of fraud to include but not be limited to: medical provider fraud; claimant fraud; premium fraud; underwriting/application fraud; agency fraud; and miscellaneous insurance fraud. Form an investigative plan, gather evidence and information pertaining to fraud allegation, conduct interviews, prepare a report, document all investigative activities, and update referring party regarding status. Establish, maintain and cultivate a network of investigative sources of information to assist with fraud investigations. Network with different internal departments of Markel and its affiliates to foster good working relationships. Develop, maintain and nurture external networking relationships with customers, to include: law enforcement, State departments of insurance, professional fraud associations and industry investigative contacts. Document all investigative activities in the SIU case tracking system. Utilize third party information databases to gain knowledge on investigative parties, businesses, assets, criminal and civil filings, etc. Requirements B.S. or B.A. degree required 5 years experience working in a Special Investigations Unit in Property, Casualty or Workers' Compensation 5 years of insurance experience in a Claims Examiner, Audit, Underwriting, or Legal may be substituted for SIU experience Certifications including CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner), CIFI (Certified Insurance Fraud Investigator), or ACFI (Accredited Health Care Fraud Investigator), or any of the AEI designations (e.g., FCLS, FCLA, SCLA, etc.) preferred Strong written and verbal communication skills Proficiency in Microsoft Word, excel, Power Point and Outlook Knowledge and experience with social media Knowledge or desire to maintain a working knowledge of the use of technology and analytics in fraud detection Please note: Markel has a phased approach for re-entry into our buildings that is designed to balance the ongoing health, safety, and well-being of our employees with operational considerations and regulatory/ governmental requirements and recommendations.
