What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dedicated Fleet Manager position at Marten Transport?
PURPOSE:
Work with a mentor to learn the skills required to advance to a full-time Dedicated Fleet Manager position, specifically to serve as drivers' representative in Operations; manage drivers' performance in identified management categories and be primary communication link to drivers; maintain optimum equipment utilization and driver Quality of Life and work to achieve optimum driver and customer satisfaction.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plan future loads for assigned power units adhering to the planning considerations and objectives.
2. When necessary, facilitate an in-route relay of loads between trucks.
3. Serve as sole communication link to driver.
4. Responsible for assigned fleet of tractors and drivers.
5. Insure that each driver has understanding of details of customer and company expectations on each load at point of dispatch.
6. Provide formalized performance and development
counseling to drivers on bi-weekly basis.
7. Prepare daily accounting of all assigned units and drivers.
8. Other duties as assigned by authorized personnel.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Daily interaction with drivers, other operations staff and management via qualcomm, telephone and in person.
ABILITIES/SKILLS REQUIRED:
Strong oral and written communication skills, strong organizational ability, detail oriented, ability to remain calm under pressure, handle multiple and varied tasks strong computer aptitude required including basic typing.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to sit for extended periods of time. Reasonable manual dexterity.
EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:
High school diploma with some continuing education required, college degree preferred.
