TITLE: Community Advocate
LOCATION: Martin Park: Webster and Lowell Sites
CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time 15-20 hours per week, Non-Exempt, Hourly,
or Full-Time 40 hours per week
DEPARTMENT: Program Services
REPORTS TO: Executive Director- Director of Operations- Program Director
HOURS: Varies: 9 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Tuesday- Saturday.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Community Advocate is responsible for all communications and outreach to the community. Community Advocates canvas the neighborhoods to distribute and receive information on how to serve the community best. Community Advocates must create a balanced approach to programming. It is vital to support the needs of all participants who regularly function at different levels of maturity, comprehension, and social-emotional behavior. Community Advocates regularly oversee the delivery and implementation of a broad range of enrichment programs, such as Sports, Fitness, Academics, Tutoring, Mentoring, Social-Emotional Learning, and Recreation. The Community Advocate assists in planning, developing, implementing, documenting, and evaluating daily, weekly, monthly, and annual programming, activities, events, and services for our participants. One must be able to assess and evaluate successes/failures from community outreach duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend all staff meetings.
- Assist in promoting, recruiting, and stimulating participation at the organization’s parks via word-of-mouth, flyers, and presentations to the service neighborhood schools, churches, businesses, community-based organizations, and City Governance Entities.
- Communicate Martin Park, Inc.'s vision, mission, and program objectives to kids, parents, and the community Martin Park, Inc serves.
- Establish and adhere to a regular work and program schedule.
- Facilitate small group sessions for youth.
- Facilitate recreational activities in any given space.
- Provide direct supervision of youth ages 6-18.
- Provide mentorship and guidance services to participants.
- Establish and, at all times, maintain an enriching program setting that ensures the health and safety of all participants and staff.
- Contribute to the overall positive and safe park climate for optimal youth development in all capacities.
- Address individual/family concerns/complaints and ensure follow-up.
- Facilitate academic/ sports teams and/or league programming that are recreation, education, and guidance-oriented as necessary.
- Canvas service neighborhoods and survey resident needs.
- Maintain adequate cleanliness, maintenance, and operations of the assigned site, spaces, facilities, and organizational vehicles.
- Transport members in organization vans and/or personal vehicles as requested and under all Martin Park, Inc’s safety policies & protocols.
- Other duties as assigned.
REPORTING & RECORD-KEEPING:
- Track, report, and log participation records for all administrative and grant report purposes.
- Track & log all assigned supplies and equipment to facilitate programming.
- Regularly consult with community partners and support agencies through grants and special projects.
TRAINING & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
- Attend all assigned training and organizational onboarding.
- Comply with state and federal regulatory requirements for protecting children and personal privacy procedures.
- As required, participate in community meetings and training, including trauma, first aid, coalitions, collaborative groups, and others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 18 years old.
- Must pass a Department of Justice background check.
- High School Diploma, GED, OR two years experience working with youth in addition to knowledge of social recreation.
- Must have personal transportation, a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, provide a recent DMV printout, and be willing to transport youth as required.
- Must be able to drive a personal vehicle to any Martin Park, Inc. site
- The Community Advocate must be able to motivate youth, manage behavior problems, appropriately communicate with the general public, and plan and implement quality programs for youth.
- The Community Advocate must be able to organize and supervise participants while facilitating a safe environment.
- Must have current CPR/First Aid Certification or be willing to be certified.
- The ability to speak languages other than English is valuable.
- Other valuable experience includes participation in early education, leadership, recreation, case management, arts, crafts, and computers/technology.

SALARY RANGE:
Compensation is offering a salary that will be commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Requires sitting, standing, and walking for up to eight hours a day. Bending, stretching, reaching, and carrying materials/supplies when necessary. Must be able to lift and carry items such as binders and boxes required to deliver materials up to 50 pounds. Some demonstration of physical activities will be necessary for this position—potential exposure to weather conditions from working outdoors throughout the various seasons.
