What are the responsibilities and job description for the Alternate Residential Advisor, Student Worker position at Maryland Institute College of Art?
Welcome to the official site for employment opportunities at MICA. At MICA, we value diversity and empower our employees to use their talent in a variety of ways. We are pleased that you are interested in career opportunities offered at MICA. Alternate Residential Advisor Being an RA alternate means that if, for some reason, a current RA cannot accept or continue in the position, Residence Life will contact you to inquire if you are still interested in the RA position. Each year, there tends to be vacancies for one or more RA positions due to numerous reasons. If a vacancy becomes available you will be notified. There is no order to those placed on the alternate list, as hiring decisions are made on best fit for the position vacancy. Different communities, especially our special interest communities, require different skills or abilities. A candidate who completes the following optional but recommended opportunities will have a greater advantage of being hired mid-year or the following year: - Actively participate in all of the 2022 RA Summer Training (if applicable) and the 2-3 day winter training January 11th and 12th, 2023. Early move-in will be provided and meals will be covered. - Regularly communicate with the assigned Residential Coordinator throughout the year. - Continue leadership development through on or off campus experiences. Housing All first and second year students are required to live on campus, but if you are going to be a junior or senior, you may be considering off-campus housing. As an alternate, it is recommended you live on campus because your on-campus housing agreement for the year can easily be amended by our office if hired. Leases made with off-campus housing officials are often for the full school year and cannot be broken By agreeing to the on-campus Housing Agreement, the contract will be for an entire academic year and is typically not altered or voided if moved to an RA role. Reapplication to the RA Position By accepting the RA alternate position, you are not guaranteed a position as a Residential Advisor the following academic year, but an ideal candidate will have actively participated in and completed fall and winter training. Alternates are able to gain a better understanding on the job, and Residence Life professional staff are able to better get to know you and your abilities. All applicants are required to fill out an application through the iLEAD process. However, depending on your level of involvement with Residence Life and our training throughout the year, you may or may not need to attend Group Process for the following annual RA selection process.
