What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outreach Educator (Part-Time) position at Maryland Science Center?
Note: Candidates will need to be available at least two days per week, with some evening and weekend hours to be expected. Average weekly hours range between 15-20, but may vary.
Job Description:
- Become a featured performer for the Maryland Science Center and represent the institution in front of audiences across the state.
- You will work with a team to present dynamic science programming for elementary school students across the state of Maryland and Mid-Atlantic region.
- We are looking for performers that can present scripted shows, classroom programs, and extemporaneous presentations.
- Performers will drive equipment to and from schools, set up sets, perform 45 minute assemblies, strike sets, and maintain program supplies.
- They may also be invited to deliver other performances, lead summer camps at the museum, and other duties as assigned.
Preferred Experience
- BA/BS preferred, or several years of experience in informal education/performance/STEM instruction may be substituted for education
- Theater performance, Children’s Theater especially preferred
- At least one year experience in informal education
- Basic understanding of science concepts, including biology, chemistry, and physics
Basic Requirements
- Must be able to pass a background check and FBI Fingerprinting
- Must have a valid Maryland Driver’s License and clean driving record
- Must adhere to strict safety protocols
- Must be able to lift and carry 50lbs
