We have an opportunity for a top candidate to join Maryville College’s staff as the new Groundskeeper.
As the Groundskeeper, you would be primarily responsible for maintaining grounds of campus. This position is an essential employee for inclement weather events and will be required to report for duty in adverse weather conditions when the College is closed. The position also is required to report on time in situations when the College is on a delayed start and is required to continue working when the College is released early. Subject to work after hours weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Your primary job duties and responsibilities would include:
- Cuts lawns. Trims and edges around walks, flower beds, and walls.
- Prunes shrubs and trees as instructed to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs.
- Sprays lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides as instructed.
- Cleans grounds and removes litter.
- Shovels snow from walks and driveways.
- Spreads salt on public passageways to prevent ice buildup.
- Plants, waters, and fertilizes grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
- Repairs fences, gates, walls, and walks.
- Cleans out drainage ditches and culverts.
- Sharpens items such as lawnmower blades, edging tools, chainsaws, and shears.
- Makes minor repairs on equipment such as lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers, hedge shears, and other powered and non-powered tools.
Minimum qualifications for this job required are:
Education required to ensure success in this position:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience required to ensure success in this position:
- 1 years’ experience in lawn care, preferred.
Special skills, knowledge and abilities:
- Proficiency in operating hand tools as well as industrial size equipment for lawn care.
- Communicate clearly with coworkers and understand clear sets of instruction.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Regular attendance is required.
Physical requirements:
- Ability to navigate campus/public buildings and grounds.
- This position frequently requires the ability to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Physical endurance for working outdoors for long periods of time.
