GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Coordinator for Academic Success is a key member of the Office of Academic Success (OAS). Reporting to the Director of Academic Success, the Coordinator will support retention initiatives that identify and assist at risk students, serve as the initial point of contact for the OAS, and support the implementation and leveraging of a new retention and advising platform.

  • Support the implementation of a retention and advising platform (e.g. Navigate360, Pharos, Starfish, Retention Alert) including ongoing platform configurations, user access, and end-user support needs; leverage software documentation, training materials, and self-service resources as appropriate.
  • Collect, evaluate, and maintain data related to student retention and completion and distribute it to appropriate stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Manage all incoming course inquiries for undergraduate, graduate, visiting transfer students and high school students via the summer interest form on the website in addition to monitoring and advising registration for non-matriculant students
  • Conduct 1:1 meeting with assigned at-risk student populations
  • Responsible for reviewing, processing and documenting student forms i.e. Change of Primary Goal (Undeclared), Leave of Absence, Withdrawal, and Reactivation Forms
  • Responsible for assigning academic advisors to all undergraduate students
  • Assist with development and facilitation of retention and advising training for faculty
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to initiate, develop, and deliver retention initiatives through programming, presentations, and workshops that address students' needs such as academic advising, course registration, time management, study skills, note taking, and stress management
  • Support the Assistant Director and Director of OAS in effective, continuous outreach and meetings with advisees, at-risk student populations, student crisis situations, and walk-in appointments
  • Manage effective communication to the Freshman Scheduling Teams
  • Prepare incoming freshman schedules
  • Attending departmental, campus, and college events related to retention and student success
  • Assessing the effectiveness of advising services and using the results to improve them

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (knowledge, skill, abilities):

  • Strong technology skills
  • Ability to implement and manage a retention software platform
  • Knowledge and skills related to student development services and programs
  • Experience with spreadsheets and databases Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ability to exercise professional discretion and judgment
  • Must perform well in a fast-paced environment

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution is required

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree in higher education, counseling, or related field preferred
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a higher education environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting majority of time; walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Office environment, infrequent local university related travel.
