Job Summary:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Library Media Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will foster a love of reading and support literacy development, helping learners build essential skills in reading, writing, digital literacy, and critical thinking.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee the library space, ensuring it is a welcoming, safe, and resource-rich environment.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate library resources and technology into lessons that support the development of literacy, research, critical thinking, and digital literacy.
- Develop and implement engaging, age-appropriate activities that promote literacy and a love for reading.
- Curate and maintain a collection of materials for all learners, including picture books, beginner readers, and other resources supporting literacy development.
- Organize and promote library programs including but not limited to storytime, reading clubs, and family literacy events.
- Support students in selecting books at appropriate reading levels and encourage independent reading habits.
- Use technology to enhance literacy instruction, including digital books, interactive tools, and educational apps designed for all learners.
- Support the development of writing skills by providing resources and opportunities for creative expression.
- Engage families by providing resources and information to support literacy development at home.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on literacy trends, library science, and educational technology.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Library Science, Library Media, or a related field.
- DESE Certification as a Library Media Specialist (or the ability to obtain certification).
- Strong understanding of all levels of literacy development and age-appropriate instructional strategies.
- Familiarity with library management software such as Follett Destiny and digital learning tools.
- Possess excellent, organization, communication, and collaboration skills,
- Experience in using technology to support literacy instruction is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

LENGTH OF POSITION: 184 days, school year (Unit A Contract)
LOCATION: Kenneth C. Coombs School (PS-2nd)
SALARY: Commensurate with experience
