Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accountant to join our team under the supervision of the Accounting Supervisor. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing general accounting tasks, maintaining accurate accounting records, preparing financial reports, ensuring internal controls are met, and handling various other duties to support the accounting department's daily operations.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare month-end journal entries within the required deadlines, including utility accruals, A/P accruals, general ledger reclassifications, retainage, depreciation expense, and other necessary accruals.
- Maintain backup documents for escrows, process weekly borrower deposits, and create bank transfers for disbursement requests as needed.
- Initiate bank wires or transfers as needed, such as for loan disbursements, grants, and NMTC monthly transfers.
- Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts, recommend resolutions to variances, and maintain backup documents for monthly general ledger reconciliations.
- Maintain fixed assets and CIP software, prepare monthly fixed asset reconciliations, and ensure accurate records.
- Prepare various bank account reconciliations to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Maintain accounting records for the Hazardous Waste Collaborative, including preparing monthly journal entries, reviewing financial statements, and collaborating with the Director as needed.
- Act as the finance liaison for department managers within the agency, streamlining budget approvals for contracts.
- Compile and process Concur bi-weekly business travel expense import entries.
- Collaborate with other agency departments, support outside auditors during interim and year-end audits, work with consultants on software management and upgrades, and liaise with banks as needed.
Competencies:
- Understanding of workplace concepts and issues related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-oppression.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with a minimum of 2-3 years of accounting experience (Equivalent training and experience can be substituted for formal education).
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient in word processing and data entry, with strong skills in Excel and Word. Possesses operational knowledge of automated accounting systems, database management systems, and fixed asset management systems.
- Should possess the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- A strong understanding of diverse concepts, practices, and procedures within the accounting field.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
