The Massachusetts Association of Health Plans is seeking an enthusiastic Social Media & Communications Graduate Intern to join their team in Fall 2025! For more than three decades, MAHP has been the leading voice for health plans and their customers in Massachusetts, working among our state’s most influential policymakers and stakeholders to make health care more accessible and affordable. We represent 15 health plans and 2 behavioral health organizations that provide coverage and care to nearly 3 million Massachusetts residents. MAHP is a dynamic organization engaged in all aspects of health policy and we seek an enthusiastic graduate student who shares our passion and commitment, and is interested in gaining valuable insight and experience into the Massachusetts health care system.
Position Summary: As a graduate intern you will have the unique opportunity to learn under the direction of all MAHP staff and will be under the supervision of the Health Policy and Research Analyst and the Office Manager & Executive Assistant to the President. Under which, the Social Media & Communications Graduate Intern will work with all MAHP staff to promote and advance MAHP’s agenda, positioning, and outreach strategy on state legislative and regulatory initiatives through social media and communication initiatives.
Essential Duties:
· Helps to ensure MAHP is represented in a cohesive and consistent manner across all social media platforms and communications, always promoting a favorable image of MAHP and its member plans through working and collaboration with all MAHP staff.
· Assists in daily social media and communications engagement and posting including daily Tweets, Facebook posts, LinkedIn posts, and more on various related news and MAHP policy priorities, ensuring appropriate materials and timelines are being maintained.
· Creates and maintains a long-term plan and timeline for all social media platforms and communications, including a calendar for social media posting.
· Strategizes long-term goals for both cohesion and increased engagement among all social media platforms and outward communications such as increased use of mentions, hashtags, images, etc.
· Monitors, analyzes, and reports on weekly and monthly engagement metrics on all social media platforms, and conducts research on potential platforms that will be used to enhance engagement, cohesion, and the organization of all long-term social media platforms and communications based on analysis.
· Participates in other long-term communications goals including brainstorming for potential multimedia creation such as videos or infographics, creation of professional social media accounts for all MAHP staff including professional headshots, and potential rebranding of the MAHP website.
· Assist in other communications work including contact list management, event planning and promoting, and compiling news and writing for our weekly newsletter.
· Other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s Degree required. Currently enrolled in a master’s program in communications, social media, public relations, public policy, or a related degree.
· Familiarity with news media, social media platforms, and content creation.
· Familiarity with best practices in communications and public relations, as well as social media marketing trends.
· Familiarity with Outlook is preferred, familiarity with Constant Contact and other media relations software is a plus.
· Ability to identify and seek information, strong formal and informal writing, editing, communication, and organizational skills.
· Familiarity with the Massachusetts political landscape, ideally with a focus on healthcare issues is a plus, but not required.
· Ability to work favorably as part of a team, understand, and follow direction.
Internship Overview
· Location: Our internship is offered as a hybrid position, in-person day(s) are based in MAHP’s Boston office.
· Time Commitment: This internship requires a part-time commitment of 16 hours per week, with one in-person office day from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and one remote day from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
· Internship Duration: This part-time internship spans 6 consecutive months.
· Stipend: A stipend is available, commensurate with experience.
