Overview

The Sr. Principal of Project Change Management is principally responsible for oversight and guidance related to Change Management for assigned major projects across one or multiple Service Lines within the MasTec CE&I Group. The Sr. Principal is responsible for ensuring all change management processes, systems, and tools within the Group are being properly adhered to and utilized at the Project and/or Service Line level and shall act as a key resource to the Service Lines and Group leadership in evaluating the use and effectiveness of these processes, systems, and tools. The Sr. Principal reports to the Vice President of Project Change but will also have dotted line reporting to the Service Line leaders.

 

Location & Travel Details:This position can be located anywhere across the U.S. as long as you have access to a major airport. Must be capable of an average of 50% travel (e.g. 2 weeks or 10 days per month) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Travel will be necessary to conduct the duties of this job, and the employee must have the ability to drive and have proper licensing. A vehicle allowance and company purchasing card will be provided. When overnight travel is required, meals and lodging will also be provided.

Responsibilities

Service Line Level/Assigned Project Oversight & Support

  • Establish relationships with the various Service Line Project Controls and Operational Leadership
  • Oversee and monitor project performance, progress, and forecasts, validating and reporting on cost and schedule performance against the baseline estimate and schedule.
  • Identify potential changes and prepare forward looking analysis to keep the Service Line Leaders and CE&I Group Leaders aware of issues before they arise
  • Work with Project Teams and Service Line/Group Leadership to conceptualize and/or create mitigation plans for potential issues prior to issue actualization.
  • Once an issue is actualized, assess the impact(s) of project changes and assist project teams in developing claims, change orders, and recovery plans.
  • Identify trends and deviations and communicate root causes of variances and recommended corrective courses of action to project management based on relevant analyses.
  • Assist with review and development, issuance, and evaluation of subcontract change orders as required.
  • Interface with project stakeholders as a trusted advisor to provide guidance and recommendations for change management on projects.
  • Inspire trust and ethical behavior by creating an atmosphere of integrity with fair and respectful behavior.
  • Promote the sharing of information with team members and at all management levels.
  • Participate and assist in attracting, recruiting, developing, and retaining top talent for the Company.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the organization.

System and Process Development and Improvement

  • Constantly evaluate organizational process and procedures to identify and develop efficiencies within the group.
  • Ensure assigned Projects follow and produce Service Line and CE&I standard operating procedures, quality deliverables and KPI’s for the group.
  • Develop or refine project systems, challenging obsolete practices, questioning accepted truths, and eliminating non-value-added processes all for the purpose of enhancing project and Company performance.

Project Change Management

  • Participate in project reviews and evaluate project deliverables for the early identification of issues.
  • Engage with project teams as needed to identify any issues and help develop corrective measures and recovery plans.
  • Engage with project teams as needed to perform forensic analysis on cost and schedule to validate both.
  • Work with project teams, external consultants, internal counsel, and finance to develop change orders and claims.
  • Maintain tracking tools for UCO’s (Unapproved Change Orders). Coordinate teams and actions to ensure quick resolution of UCO’s.
  • Monitor UCO development and changes and report any potential change in value immediately.

Organizational Change Management

  • Support the operational implementation of new software.
  • Work with Service Line leaders to ensure proper use of Service Line and CE&I document control platforms.
  • Work with CE&I Leadership to develop risk analysis and mitigation tools for assigned projects. Seek to align those project tools with overall Service Line or CE&I to allow their implementation across all of CE&I.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering or related major is preferred.

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in project management and/or project controls in progressing roles of management responsibility in construction, particularly linear infrastructure, industrial power and manufacturing, or renewables construction.

  • Experience as Project Manager, Project Controls Manager, or higher for Design Build, EPC, or other alternative delivery projects with values in excess of $100M where Contractor had both schedule and design risk.

  • Experience performing forensic analysis on both cost and schedule.

  • Experience in the development and negotiation of changes orders and claims in excess of $50M.

  • Experience with owner, designer, subcontractor, and insurance disputes.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Proficient in Primavera P6

  • Experienced in linear infrastructure, industrial or renewable energy construction

  • Proven ability to lead others

  • Excellent communicator, able to present complicated issues in clear, simple terms to Group Leadership

  • Well-organized

  • Strong contractual, financial, and commercial acumen

  • Ability to travel as needed.
